Must Have Duck Hunting Gear

Y'all done got me hot and bothered for duck murderin'. Got a dozen dekes plus a wobbler and a spinner in the trunk of the Accord since the truck is down ATM. Gonna hike in with my leaky waders and go hunt The Pond since my usual place is closed to waterfowlers tomorrow due to a dog drive. Wish me luck!

Gonna feel silly if I give all this advice and then can't kill a single bird tomorrow...
Shoot every shell you've got and break every bone in their bodies. Take pictures and share them with us.

Same feeling here! I’m much more of a deer hunter than a waterfowler, but here I am thinking about heading out midday tomorrow to stomp some nearby creeks and tributaries to jump-shoot some local ducks. That kind of hunting really makes me feel like a kid again in the best way.

What'd i tell ya?

Saw 4 birds. Shot 3 times at the 2 that decoyed. Click. Sh shuck. Click. Sh shuck. Click. *&#×@!

Looked down and the receiver was crammed with mud from a tumble I took after hitting a soft spot. Washed it out in the pond. Sh shuck. BAM!!

Go figure. Saving grace was shooting down some mistletoe on the walk back to the truck. Missus is pleased with me. And my preferred tract of land will be open for hunting tomorrow. I scouted it last night and I know where about 50 birds are roosting. At least I'll have more opportunities to embarrass myself tomorrow.

This was on my FB feed this morning. That's my girl, she died earlier this week. I'm still struggling with the fact that we won't be able to share anymore hunts together. Sorry for hijacking the thread buy I wanted to share it with some fellow duck hunters.

Sorry for your loss.

What kind of yak? I'm looking for one since I lab died. I need ideas. And is this my opportunity to make a snide comment about the Mossberg 500? Let me know on that too!
It's a WS pungo 120. Love it to death. Small enough to be handy, fast enough to get you there and just barely big enough for me and some gear.

Won't hurt my feelings if ya rip on a gun that got a receiver full of mud and then worked after swishing it in a dirty pond. It was operator error. Don't cram gun in mud and pull trigger. I'm honestly lucky it was the receiver and not the barrel that was plugged.

So maybe mess with you not about the gun but your walking ability? Of course that would be the pot calling the kettle black. I fell in last season and totally submerged myself in 45 degree lake water. It's funny as heck now but not so much then. Post some pics if you get any tomorrow!

I feel better about tomorrow's odds. I was hunting too far south today due to bureaucracy. Not enough oaks and small water. Tomorrow I will see more than 4 birds. Probably more than 40.

Got some new waders from Rogers this year in a pre-black Friday sale after my 14yr old neoprenes leaked too much for me to keep using. Insulation zips out and will be a game changer for early Teal.

Duck hunting took on a whole new level for me when I got a dog several years ago. She's a big goof in the house but switches into "Insane Bitch" when its time to hunt. She listens pretty good, but doesn't want me to pet or love on her when she's working. Its hilarious. Sharing post hunting chow with her is pretty awesome, too.

Good looking partner ya got there!

I'm here at the parking spot taking smug satisfaction in being the first truck. Jealous of your 14 year old neoprenes. Mine are maybe 5 and my buddy jokes they're not waders, they're wetters.

My girls demeanor changed when she went to work. It was like flipping a switch. She was fun loving but went "straight business" when we hunting. That's a good thing.

You have probably cost me my 20 deer trophy. Why chase deer when suicidal ducks want to collide into high-velocity steel?

And thus the life of a deer/waterfowl hunter. Addictive. Just like those decoying doves lately that want to play suicide mission on the flickers.

I like to say I'm a deer hunter by trade and a duck hunter by choice.
