My First Yellow Jacket (tm) Saddle Build *** Complete 1 lb 7 oz

Also
This thread has mostly been about heavy fabric construction. Here is a video on relaxing. I used that other brown strap as a big back band. It is is great. A few more straps and I will achieve my goal of the big yellow tree-lawn chair. :D

Also, what type of plywood are we working with? Treated or not?

Got any plans to add a cushion?
No. The flexibility seems to be it's own cushion. I sat twice last week with underwear and fleece pants (Natural Gear) and didn't need any. If I get butt pinch, I will reconsider. :D

Can’t see how that plywood is given you much flex, hemroids sure, flex nah. I’m only kidding but I just meant on top of the plywood.

This was the back off an old piece of furniture (0.195"). I would use plywood underlayment, I think its a little less than 1/4", if I was buying new.

Oh well in that case you might be getting some flex haha. Gonna be nerve racking if it cracks while sitting on it. Of course you wouldn’t go anywhere but still.

If I add a huge cushion it will increase the weight significantly more than 2 ounces. :D

The first piece I added did crack when I sat on it so I sewed half of it to the saddle for testing. It is a few posts back in this thread. It really only needs stitching so it stays in place, not for support.

Sat in a tree for 2 hours this evening with the plywood and I had no hip pinch. My butt might be a little sore. A longer sit will tell for sure.

I started climbing today and I heard a loud crack like a limb breaking from a tree. It was windy today so not an unnatural noise in the woods. It was the plywood seat in my saddle. I kept climbing since it was not life support and sat from 3:30PM to 6:30PM. I had some hip pinch. I have to use thicker plywood, drill some holes in it and sew through the holes.....or lose some weight.

I removed the plywood from the saddle and looked around for some 3/8" plywood but I only have 1/2". I glued one of the smaller pieces to the middle of the larger one to strengthen it. I will sew it back on soon. In the middle it is 3/8" thick. It shouldn't add too much extra weight. I thought about using aluminum but I wouldn't want to sit on that on a cold day.

I have shared this before, but a thin cutting board will work much better than plywood for this purpose as it will flex without breaking.

I didn't see your post about that. I will try to find it. Thanks.
Edit: I just searched for cutting board on posts by you and your previous post is the only one that showed up.

It was on a different, older thread, but has worked well for testing so far.
I searched all of saddlehunter.com. Maybe you used different words.

I saw your post on the bosun's chair about using aluminum but that must be cold, insulation or not.

It may have been in PM too, sorry about that, too many posts under the belt for pure memory!

I sewed the panel back into my saddle. It looks the same as before so no photo. I will try it as soon as the hurricane passes and I get out hunting. I sat in it hanging from my pullup bar and it didn't crack. It feels much less flexible than before.
