My Not So Lightweight Reinforced Climbing Sticks"!!!

I like what you did with the steps and the tread. What kind of blade did you use on your table saw?

Just a high tooth count blade. You can actually turn a low tooth count blade around so that the back of the carbide teeth hit the aluminum and it will cut also.

Is that 1 pound 14.4 ounces? I can't really see.

So I have been messing around trying to figure out which style aider I wanted to make, single, double, triple, Amsteel, webbing, removable, or fixed. Well I decided on Amsteel like @flinginairos in a double step fixed setup. I liked @bowhunter15 webbing aiders but I had 1/4" Amsteel on hand and figured it was lighter. So I used Bowhunter15/DIYSportsman spacing at 22" for each step and some of Flinginairos ideas.

DIYSportsman video is linked in the original post on this thread, Page 1, Post 1.

Flinginairos Lightest Aider Thread,

MATERIALS:

-Knitting needle cut to use as a fib, @g2outdoors

-30ft 1/4" Amsteel

-Roll of Electrical tape

Pics that follow are mine from todays build.
Im 6ft tall and the top the step is at 8ft at the top of my reach. Just over 2lbs each with aiders.

I would have to go back and add it up but I would guess around $120. I had bolts, washers, nuts, spacer, paint and most tools on hand.

So, I looked back and figured out that these cost me about $170 total. The Amsteel and LW standoffs being the most expensive parts. I have approx. 60ft of Amsteel between the tree straps and aiders. Still not horrible for just over 6lbs, should be able to get around 22-24ft. I also plan on adding a few WE steps of Cranford rope steps for more versatility.

So I havent been on SH very long but I have been consumed by this "new to me way of hunting", since around August or September of 2017. I bought my Kestrel and have been slowly compiling my arsenal of saddle hunting gear. I knew I needed a climbing system and liked the climbing stick method. I searched SH and Youtube and found DIYSportsman video on his 1.5lb DIY climbing sticks.

DIYSportsman/Bowhunter15's SH build thread on these sticks.

I also found Flinginairos 1.25lb stick build thread.https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?ur...&share_tid=6384&share_fid=104184&share_type=t

I didn't have the thought process to use my tablesaw at the time and couldnt source a 6061 T6 1"x2"x0.375", thats why I opted to go with Bowhunter15s style. Since then I have figured I will do a future build like Flinginairos and purchase 2"x2"x0.375" and cut it down to the 1"x2" dimension.

So then I thought, but how am I going to make Bowhunter15s steps?!?!? I dont have a CNC Router table, endmill setup, or waterjet at home or work....

How about a fixed router setup? Nope, tried it... My setup wasnt stable enough.

DINGGGG.... Dado cuts on a table saw!!!

Hopefully all of this info helps some of you DIYers with your builds. The following pics I hope will describe my process as best as possible. Any questions, fire away!

This is exactly how I made mine also. Table saw works great for the slot.

Sure does, works great for all aluminum cuts.

Yep. I made a jig and did d the angle cuts with it also. Not sure if you did it or not but a 3/4” countersink worked great to chamfer the holes. Really added a clean look to them

Yeah I chamfered them, you can see the chamfering in the pics when I was cutting the tread in them best.
