I had a typical amsteel gear hanger that I girth hitch to the tree and use it to hold my pack on the tag end and my other gear in the loops around the tree. The problem was the pack weighing down the tag end would pull the loops so tight it was difficult to attach to it. I also do not like leaving clips/s biners attached all the time. With different size trees I prefer to place everything after I'm setup.
This design uses 7/64 amsteel. It has a main line (black) with a loop on one end. The tag end has daisy chain with locked Brummels. These are used to clip my pack in. The orange line then goes to bury, loop, bury, loop. These loop sizes can be adjusted when not weighted, but as soon as I attach my pack the load locks the loops in place, and does not tighten the opening. The loops stay nice and open for clipping into.
I had it up in the tree on a practice climb today and worked as planned. I'll snap a picture in the tree next time I take it up with me.
