New climbing stick design

How much room do you have for your feet when it's tight to the tree ?
Looks like there isn't a lot of room for big feet like mine just wondering. They do look awesome and great job.
I have size 14 shoes and there is way more room for my feet than a traditional step. That was part of the design motivation, I felt it sucked to stand on this knife edge narrow step. I'll put one on a tree this afternoon and post some pics.

Are the steps slippery? With no upwards angle and no grip on them, they appear slippery. Look nice though
The steps will be sanded to a pretty rough grit before painting, which will provide even more grip, but even right now they are not slick at all. The big hole on each step really grips your boot.

Those look great! I'm doing some side job work for a local artist and a week or so ago he was at the shop while I was welding on his stuff and he saw one of my DIY sticks. After admiring them he asked me why I didnt just have the step and bracket water jet cut as one piece and attach to the stick instead of 2 pieces. I'm been pondering something similar since but yours look much better than what I had sketched up lol

I have a set of Heliums that I think are OK. Nothing new has come out that really has me intrigued but I am really digging your design. I would definitely go for some of those. Kudos man

Looking Good! I have wondered why none of the stick manufactures weld there steps on? Is there a reason they don't? I can't think of one other than folding steps make for a smaller profile when carrying. Beast sticks are held to close tolerances that a weld would eliminate.

I imagine it's has to do with keeping costs down/shipping...as far the sticks the sticks integrity I don't know anything about welding aluminum.

So it would add a little weight, but you could weld these to a 1.25" receiver piece and folks could bolt them over the end of their own sticks. Or a 3/4" piece and they could insert them into their sticks and bolt them in.

This is a good idea. I was also thinking of cutting them from 1/2" thick material and putting a hole through to bolt them.

That was my plan on the ones I've been sketching up. Was going to use a 1/4" bolt. At my weight it should be fine.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Here's the stick on a tree. Keep in mind I wear size 14 shoes.IMG_20190716_165845_resize_79_compress28.jpgIMG_20190716_165916_resize_55_compress47.jpgMVIMG_20190716_165923_resize_33_compress22.jpgIMG_20190716_165853_resize_35_compress98.jpgIMG_20190716_170845_resize_9_compress70.jpg
Last pic is all four strapped to my pack.

With button and amsteel Daisy chain each 24" stick weighs 2lbs 5oz. Not the lightest stick on the world, but not too bad. If you made it a 20" stick and maybe a slightly smaller step, you could probably get under 2lbs.

I think you have a winner with your design if you decide to make them to sell I am sure you would sell more than a few on here.

Thanks for the info.

You're button seems low on the stick, but if its solid should be fine and it looks like you could put it wherever. Great build. I agree they remind me of summit buck steps which I own several of. I have been meaning to drill some holes in those posts to cut some weight.
