New from western PA

I just need to find the right 16'-17' aluminum v hull for cheap and fix it up. I've really been wanting to bear hunt on the reservoir, glass snowy hill sides after the leaves are off the trees and finding one to go after.

:tearsofjoy: Now I'm daydreaming in my office.
If you have an idea where there are bear I will bring my boat up and chauffeur for that opportunity.

What's the hunting pressure like in the ANF? I grew up in mckean county and have always wanted to do some deep woods hunting in the kinzua area.
Like anywhere else, if you don’t mind putting on the miles you find less people. It’s like western hunting.

Archery it is pretty low. There is definitely people hunting but the woods are so big that it's easy to get away from people and find good spots.

First day of gun season... probably goes without saying (orange army) and then gets lower from there through the season.

I've been wanting to do the same, I'm 32 and I'm the only one of my friends without little kids so it is tough to find someone that wants to do any backpack hunting (outside of our annual western elk trip)

I just pulled a camera with more bear than deer on it. :) Find a concentration of acorns anywhere on ridges up there and you're likely to find bears or bear sign.

I spend some time hunting ASP on the NY side and there is no bear hunting in the park and there are a lot of bears in that park. Fortunately, that side of PA can be the toughest to get to as well from dry land.

Keep me in mind if you are serious about it. I came back empty handed from montania this year and the freezer is empty... I need a lot of meat this fall to make it until next year. It’s just me and my wife and we went thru 3 deer and a sika, all our fish plus about 1/8 cow from the year before. I am living on organ meat right and hand to mouth small game/birds and will be vegan by the end of the month if I don’t put some meat in the freezer!
