New Hunting Beast Hang On

Dan originally said his stand would likely be well over $500 so the price doesn’t shock me. He realizes that it’s not for everybody and never expected huge sales. His goal was to build a premium lightweight stand for those who don’t really like other stands on the market and want a better option and aren’t afraid to pay for it. Obviously the price is well beyond what average hunters want to pay for a stand. Those are not the customers he’s targeting.

I have enough stands already and much more into saddle hunting these days so don’t really need one at this moment. Wouldn’t rule it out though in the future. Always good to have other options.

$1200 bow
$1000 deer guns
$1000 hunting clothes
$100’s in arrows and broadheads
$625 treestand
Shoulders and back not aching, priceless!

For anyone interested, they posted the back story on the beast stand. Kind of interesting. I admit I do like the way the beast sticks lock onto the stand.

Goes to show you, opinions vary when it comes to what folks want in a stand.

I suspected THB would levy the stick/stand holes for stick attachment, but hoped it’d be a little more advanced than diy shrink wrapped threaded rod, and certainly not oriented crosswise as a shelf. Others said they didn’t see a stick attachment that wouldn’t involve adding components, I hoped that wasn’t the case.

I found the Beast Stand announcement to be a bit of a snub towards LWCG, with the seat folded like a shelf and the finish described as titanium grey (to LWCG’s hammered titanium finish) when THB stand is in fact brown, and is according to the video a color they spent a lot of time selecting. Could be reading into that, however. Thats just what I see, and it seems unnecessary.

Nevertheless, that stick attachment is not for me but may prove great for others. Something folks could diy on other stands for sure.

Anyone complaining about the price had a chance to see how much a 2x4 sheet of 3/4” 6061 aluminum would cost you?

anyone complaining about the price see how much having said piece of aluminum water jetted, or CNC’d to shape?

anyone complaining about the price see how many hours it would take you to do the above things right the first time, and have a functioning stand?

anyone complaining about the price consider the cost of adding all the components necessary to complete the project, after getting the first 3 steps exactly right?

anyone complaining about the price remember the exact same conversation around LWCG stuff, that’s now just mainstream? Along with OOAL?

anyone complaining about the price understand the markup that machined metal goods get, is nothing compared to the markup that saddle companies having their diapers sewn in China get? Like 2 or 3x profit, versus 10x profit.

anyone complaining about the price take any marketing or economics courses?

Dan could cast a stand if the IP wasn’t protected, and sell it at a lower price.

Dan could fabricate and weld a stand and sell it at a lower price.

Dan could sell a stand with similar size specs as other stands, and maybe sell at a lower price.

Im not saying it’s good or bad, or worth it to me or you or not. But Id like someone to show me the sub 10lb hang on that fits well inside your hips and shoulders, and a person who’s not 5’8 can sit in it without their feet hanging off. Do these features matter to you if you’re broke and 5’8 and hunt private land? No. But the complaints about the price say nothing about the product. Only something about you.

for the record, I’m generally disappointed about the grip that business has on hunting, and how it’s turned it into a commodity. Having said that, it’s largely responsible for us having lots of public ground to hunt. We should be thankful, instead of poopooing. Also, no one forces anyone to buy. Game the system - hunt the land it provides, and don’t buy the gear! But we could do with a little less whining about it.

A person can spend a lot more and a lot less on each of these and get the same result.

No doubt this stand broke the price ceiling for a stand. No need to defend it. If it’s worth $650 to you, then buy proudly.

I see a bump in .5 sales right now. But wait til the Beast stand and the .5 go up in price due to "manufacturing issues."

I don’t think anyone is saying THB is selling this with crazy mark up to maximize profit margins and fade into fat-and happy-land.

It is the most expensive hang on by far, so folks are reacting to that.

Does it provide the longest platform in its weight class, yes. Is it entirely novel, no.

For folks who desire its features, it may be worth the cost. For others, there are cheaper options that will fit the bill.

Does everyone drive an Aston Martin, does everyone need an Aston Martin, is an Aston Martin overpriced? Who cares.

Same with this stand.

Saying it is expensive is just a simple observation, and reacting with surprise is natural when we haven’t seen a stand come close to this expense. Thanks for sharing the economics though, that puts it in perspective a bit, it’s a risk and expense to THB crew to have done this at all.

When the beasts first came out people lost their minds thinking 80 a stick is outrageous. Today despite the beasts going up slightly, they seem like a bargain with Catalysts going for 160 a pop. And many other sticks even more expensive. I'm sure we'll see the same thing happen in stands. Who'll make the fist titanium stand and how much will that go for :fearscream:

I believe in the video Dan said the stand he wanted to build would have cost $1500. What could have been done to make a stand so expensive? Also, it won't be long before we see the first $1000 stand.

This sort of goes to what Kyler is talking about, price wise.

The problem is...the GWB sticks apparently suffer from a not so great standoff design, a limiting attachment button, and a slight weight disadvantage.

Don’t hear of too many GWB sticks in use.

But, they fill a niche for some and are out there being happily used by some.

There will be pros and cons with THB stand and one of the cons is cost.

I had the gwbs. Probably my least favorite stick I've ever used. Couldn't wait to get rid of em

If you don’t like the price then just wait until Lone Wolf or Novix comes out with their updated Assault. They dropped the weight of the Alpha by 3 pounds. If they do the same with the Assault then your looking at pretty much the same stand for half the price.

For everyone complaining about the price, did you forget Beast Gear set the precedent just a few years ago for $80 a stick. I thought that was crazy until I bought a set, now I would never go back.

I’m not saying you need to buy it, but some respect needs to be shown to the man who really changed the game. Dan wanted to change the industry, a few short years later he did that.

I don’t want to hear anything about being a copy cat. Dan is the first one to come out with “ premium, custom” gear.

LWCG already upped their stick price from $80 to $100 each. They just had this gift card sale I bet their stand go up $100 in price. The 2.0 will be even more than the beast.
I'm unfamiliar with the 2.0. I'll have to see what that's all about.

I don’t think so.

With batwing, cushion, and 2 straps it weighs 14 pounds. About the same as the Assault II.
