New Re-designed Windwalker Treestand

I've rebuilt 2 spirits lately. What I do is remove that stupid chain and just girth hitch one side of a cam buckle strap to the closed hook and hook into the loop of the strap on the other side. Works GREAT!

if i'm understanding, then the forces would tend to pull the 2 support bars apart

people are working around this by running the strap in between the plate and 2 posts and then hooking up strap to strap (I used a rated screw link), this makes the straps more jam the stand into the tree

Why would it pull the bars apart? It wraps around the tree in the same orientation as the chain does. You're saying it'll pull them apart from overtightening?

Genuine question. Not being a jerk. I just didn’t see it as a problem. Do you have pics or a link?

i don't have a pic right now, loc on limit is snowed in inside an out building

just looked up locon pics, one side of the strap being connected to one post, then no strap between the posts (but the plate), then connect the free end to the other post after you wrap around the tree

i think it is putting undue stress on whatever holds those posts together, it might not matter in practice, but i don't like it

my limit has a little aluminum plate that connects the two seat posts using 4 bolts

i just took that plate off, laid a lone wolf tree stand strap across the the two seat posts in between the bolt holes, and then put the plate back on to secure it, i even wrapped all the metal corners with gorilla tape that might touch the strap

now, i just connect the 2 ends of the lone wolf strap together

this sorta the difference between hooking two loops to the same versabutton versus 2 different versabuttons that are side by side

Just saw these photos from someone in the classified section. I haven’t seen a lot of photos of this yet so I thought others might be in the same boat so sharing them again here.

what are your thoughts on the 2 in webbing attachment? Rock solid but probably a pain?

I'd probably get rid of it and replace with a lone wolf stand strap and then join the two end loops of the strap with a quick link....heck, who am i kidding, i'd amsteel daisy chain that sucker with a trucker's hitch....there's always a way to do it

I bought one used of the classifieds here a couple years ago and that’s exactly how he had the strap run, with a lone wolf strap. Somebody needs to find some pictures of the new fleece pack.

any waist strap or place to easily put one on?

On my spirit I have military surplus backpack straps and a waist strap. Works great. But I’m not sure of the dimensions of the Windwalker. With it being a little smaller at imagine it may not be as easy.

I’m in the garage putting gear away from this season and came accords my spirit and thought I’d kick it to you guys for windwalker ideas. So here ya go! Right at 17 lbs with everything I need to hunt. These are muddy pro sucks so known to be sorta heavy. Stick talons, surplus backpack rig, rope, RCH and all.

My ONLY complain with this rig is that it’s a tad tall on my back.

Looks lkkenyou have the earlier version spirit, only one cross member about 2/3 towards the front under the expanded mesh. Those are great. I had one and I believe it and 4 lw sticks was 13.5lbs all in. The newer ones with 2 supports are a good 2lbs heavier if I remember.

Man this thing was brand new in the box. Obviously it was old but the fella had it sitting in his garage. $20 later and $18 in surplus straps and some stick talons I had laying around and I’m happy as a lark.

Since the 72 season, I've only hunted out of three Lock-On stands...... homemade design, original Windwalker (5 3/4 pounds), original Limit (6 1/2 pounds). The Limit was and still is my favorite. It's not as comfortable as my living room recliner but in my younger days I've made many all day hunts from it. And, three days ago I made a five and a half hour hunt with it. I'll be 78 in three weeks so it shouldn't be a problem for a younger hunter.
