New Saddle hunter from Ontario.

Hi I'm new to saddle hunting, looking forward to trying this stlye of hunting for some remote places I hunt in Ontario. Are there any other Ontario saddle hunters on here. Where is everyone from? Thanks for having me on the group.

Welcome from the tip of Michigan's lower peninsula.

I'm near Port Huron Michigan. If you need some help with anything let me know. Although I'm new to the site I have plenty of experience that can help you out

Sweet more Canucks!
I'm from Hamilton - if you are nearby, don't hesitate to reach out.

I live and hunt on the Bruce Peninsula and own property as well as hunt public. Im going to be saddle hunting this year. I have typicaly just run and gun with a lone wolf stand and sticks. Looking forward to trying the even more mobile set up. What area do you hunt and how long have you been saddle hunting?

Welcome from God's Country, Missouri. My wife is from Buffalo and speaks fluent Canadian if you ever need a hand with the gibberish on here :)

I bow hunt around the Hamilton area. I spend a week up north during rifle season half near Algonquin Park, and then Bancroft (two separate camps). I also do a Moose hunt up north every year - the last couple of years near Nakina. This year I will be in flying in a bit further east of there. Last season was my first season in a saddle. I ran an aluminum climber before then. It didn't take me long to get used to it, and overall it blew my mind.

From what I hear, there are strong deer numbers up your way. My buddy hunts Mt Forest and is consistently getting eyes (or better) on quality bucks.

If you are a run and gun hunter, you are going to be happy going to a saddle. What unit do you have?

Hi MJH
I hunt in the southern extension of Algonquin the second week of the rifle season. Right at the corner of Elephant Lake Rd and Peterson Road.

I know that area well. I fish Baptiste and Elephant most years (my buddy has a place on Baptiste). I am hunting on the backside of Lake Weslemkoon just a bit South East of there. For the purposes of this forum, I would say that there aren't any deer there. No fish or wildlife at all actually.

No. I just go for the food. We tend sandy Acres lodge. Bring tons of food and go for naps in the woods cause “Thar are no deer in them thar woods!”

Man, couple years back I sat on a ridge overlooking a small ravine about three hundred yard across. Just as the sun was lighting the horizon, a lone wolf started to howl on the other ridge. That got my attention! I couldn’t see him, but he was close.
Then a pack answered him from behind me. They were closer. I was stump sitting that day. I’ve been up in my saddle ever since.
That year we had several encounters with wolves. One head on in the dark. One being watched by 2 wolves from 50 yards and then my howler.
I spoke with a wolf expert. He said not to worry about the wolves. Black bears are far more dangerous. Wolves are curious mostly.
I’d love to see one up there.
