New strap mod....

Dang wish this post came out a day sooner could have shipped it all together BTW thanks @DanO for such a speedy ship job on the DoubleSteps!
Sorry @Bourdeau, guess we should slow those elves down. Don't forget, you'll get free shipping and I'll bring orders to SaddlePalooza if you use the code SADDLEPALOOZA. I have an 18' cargo trailer and @T.Clarke is driving with his Excursion so I can bring a few orders.

I just started playing with this stuff at the end of the season in December. It seemed to be working pretty well with both my Beast sticks and the Predator platform. The sticks were solid but the platform was not always as tight as I like it, but I think I can live with it. I am experimenting now with making an aider from it. Crappy weather here lately has kept me out of trees...more testing needed, but so far so good!

Not to hi-jack this thread, but how solid does that casting feel using it for a platform?

Feels very solid to me. Solid enough that I’ve go 3 more of them in my office waiting to be made into platforms.

That’s a 6’ strap in the picture, but I got 8’ straps to put on my sticks and platform just in case I run into a bigger tree.

......for my sticks and my platform. So recently I ordered some woven daisy chain webbing to use as a gear holder. Well when I got it the wheels started turning and I would up using a single piece as both my gear holder and my aider and posted a thread on here about such. Yesterday I went out and tested it as a strap for my sticks and my platform. Amazing stuff.

7,000 lb breaking strength
6’ weighs 2.9 oz
8’ weighs 3.9 oz
Well less than $1/ft

What’s not to love, right?

That last pic is all of my 6-3, 260# self on the platform alone. Didn’t budge.

I’m officially done with LW straps, amsteel mods, rope mods, etc. this stuff is simply too strong, too cheap and too light for me to concern myself with other options.

Don’t believe me? Drop $5 or so on a 6’ piece and see for yourself.

I wish there was a “love” button. “Like” just isn’t strong enough.

Where did you get the webbing from?

@dalton916 so did you order 18’ and cut them down to 6’ pieces or contact DWG and ask them to make them 6’ each for you?

Order by the total amount you want and put a note in the comments box and they will cut it into whatever lengths you wish. I got 12’ cut into two 6’ pieces to begin with. Then after discovering how well it worked with sticks and my platform I ordered 72’ cut into nine 8’ pieces.

@DanO has it already cut into 6’ and 8’ pieces, I believe, but I would check with him to make sure.

Curious how that daisy chain webbing compares to the versa straps. Anyone tried both? If so, what’s the verdict?

I used them all season on my sticks. I did not have one stick that slipped in roughly 50 sits. I used them with lone wolf buttons and apl buttons. Here is a trick I learned, if one loop is too loose and the next is too tight, turn your stick perpendicular to the tree and use the tighter loop. Then turn the stick back vertical to the tree, nice and snug.
Dutchwaregear also has a version that is one ounce for seven feet. That only problem is some of it is blue. I have some and tested it on a couple of trees in my backyard. It also works well. Doesn’t seem like it will be quite as durable in the long run though.

I ordered 4 of these 7’ long to try out. Should be here Monday. Hope I like them so I can do away with my ropes
