Ok so I finally got my new seat. Size wise, it's identical to the old one.

The paint is not the same. The old seat looks powder coated where the new one looks like a flat spray paint. (Not as shiny, and not as smooth)

The biggest difference is the position of the adjustment screw. It's higher up and tucked under the seat more on the new seat. I will put it on a post tomorrow and verify fit. I think it's fine, but I may have to rework and move the plate up on the kits I have in stock. More info tomorrow.

If so, are you still going to sell the older kit? I recruited another saddle hunter the other day. I want to set him up and I only have the old style on hand.

Absolutely. As long as I know which seat you have, I'll have a kit to fit it.

Thanks Ernie. I got him excited. He loves the sit drag. He close to a kestrel. He wants a platform regardless when I explained the close quarter benefits. We'll be in touch

Ok guys here's what I found. The new seat indeed is a little higher, and there is a small amount of interference with the rivet. The plastic cap on the screw barely touches the rivet. If you take the cap off, there is no interference. Functionally, these will work just fine, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and wish it fit better. That being said, I will be making these with the plate just a touch higher on future versions.

So........
I have 9 kits here that I really don't want to drill out the rivets, drill new holes, and then re-rivet back together so I'm offering a $5 discount for anyone who wants one of these.

Also, I have noticed a small amount of really fine surface rust on the steel plates so going forward, l will begin using aluminum plates.

The aluminum will be plenty strong, but won't run the risk of possibly rusting.

One more post. Here is how the reworked post looks. Basically you have an extra hole exposed. It doesn't affect integrity but doesn't look as clean. I believe I can position it such that both the new and old seat will work.

So how are y'all rigging this kit to carry into your stands? And getting it up into the tree? Last year I would just strap my sticks on my pack but I think I am going to have to change that or get a different pack.

Mine fits perfectly on the outside of my pack and I use the ears on the side of the seat to strap it down using the side straps on my pack. When I get to the tree I take it off and hang it from my saddle with a clip I screwed onto the platform tube. When I climb up I just reach behind me and grab it and put it on the tree without taking my pack off. Works great

After a year of experimentation, mis-treatment, and down right abuse, old faithful has had enough... Luckily it was at ground height when I was showing off the merits of saddle hunting, not at 20ft. I'm happy that these things are only $29.99, but I do wish we could get a heavier duty option... On a positive note, with my new attachment system I should get more life out of the replacement seat because I can get the right tension a lot easier. It is a large Nite Ize CamJam XT Aluminum Rope Tightener with 6mm accessory rope(I would go with 8mm next time, less stretch). Easy to adjust and stronger than a normal Cam buckle.
