Where the skys are so blue!
Maybe they know Alabamians would just as soon shoot a deer with a rimfire so make them dress the part.
I will take 0 sh×t off a Georgia boy, thank ya very much. ;) Y'all's seasons are kinda lime speed limits. "Suggestions."

@gcr0003, did we go on a squirrel hunt last year? I remember a little nature walk.

@Bama_Xander, you did pretty well last year in the rodeo if I recall correctly.

If your speaking of the non state sanctioned early velvet season it’s really more of a practice session than an actual season. When your hunting at night, from a road and shooting deer on property you don’t have permission to hunt does it really matter that they are out of season. Back in the old days they would add a disturbing wildlife charge for the use of the Q-beam. Not anymore. All these poor necks trying to put meat on their families table have $4000 thermal scopes. But we ain’t got nuttin on dem boyz from Alabama.

I did OK last year. I did even better the year before. Looking forward to this year!

Made a skwerl hunt this morning since the deer are not playing nice.

2 misses on the morning and had one fell in the crotch of a couple limbs and hung up. That mid 1940’s rifle will still do it if I do my part.

That thing is sweet, and Edguns appear to be pricey!

I assume the theory here is an airgun is legal to take with you while archery hunting, whereas a rimfire rifle is not, correct? Perhaps it depends on the state. Mine says no rifles. You can take a handgun but cannot use it to "take game".

I am seeing lots of squirrels and getting interested in trying this approach. Not sure I can justify having a more expensive squirrel weapon than my crossbow or deer rifle though.

Once again this site finds a way to help me part with money!

Get a cheap one. But if you’re doing it, get at least .22 caliber. Smaller calibers work fine, but i don’t want to bloodtrail squirrels.

I have been looking into cheap ones. The best cheap one appears to be the Air Venturi Avenger:

I haven’t had much luck finding a compact / cheap one like the edgun. The one I linked is as big as my main rifle. I’d like a cheap compact one that could fit in the pack easily. Still on the hunt.

Crossman makes a pretty solid pistol that killed a lot of squirrels on my college campus.

Not a bad option on a budget. WAY better than anything spring-loaded.
I'm not on a super tight budget, but $1-2k on an air gun is probably not my first choice.

Don't really wanna haul a bully long thing in the woods with me, but I understand cost/bulk tradeoffs.

My real question is, is it realistic to shoot squirrels while archery hunting? Has anyone seen or harvested deer after doing some of this? If so, I'd love to plink a few bushy tails to bring home at the end of the night, but I don't want to ruin my chances at the real target.

I bought the gun in part because I got tired of shooting 15.00 arrows at squirrels while deer hunting. I could not shoot them, but that's nonsense.

I have killed deer on multiple occasions, after having killed a squirrel with my bow. This gun is about as loud as my bow. I'm also not a hardcore trophy hunter, with scent control, and target bucks, and what not. I work my butt off to get in high odd situations to kill deer. But I'll shoot the first legal critter that comes by most times. I have occasions where I'll be more serious if I'm in big buck country. But the time is gone when the day ends, and memories are overrated. I want to get the most enjoyment out of my hunting time. Many times that means shooting little critters too!

I think you & I have a very similar thought process regarding deer harvest goals.

Appreciate the feedback. This is moving high up my to do list. Just not sure my desire for light weight low bulk and the associated cost fits my desire to eat squirrel. Need to know the latter first. Might have to buy a cheap big/long airgun to try it out. That bullpup is a sweet machine though.

Have you seen the new retay masi mara? Im thinking about getting it. Also, what size jon boat is your swamp runner on and do you have one of the step up kits on it?
I had to Google that. Lol. I've never really looked at auto loaders. I miss plenty faat enough with a pump. ;)

The boat's a 1436 with a 301cc predator. Actually just ordered a weldcraft 1436 to replace my 63 year old Sears and will probably trade in the 301 for a 420. No engine mods since it's a long way back to the truck if a cheap import motor blows.
