Official Predator Platform review thread!!

Thanks. I knew that was the time frame on the Mantis, but didn't know if that applied to the predator as well since they were already shipping.

Yes I think you will start from the back but don't quote me

Well after much anticipation our Predators arrived. I will preface this with we just got the Kestrel and hunted all last year out of a Lone Wolf. We will still use the LW sticks to climb.
The first impression out of the box was how light the predator is and it looks great. The size is perfect. I had problems with it shifting and the wing pulling away from the tree. After spending some time in it and finding even with the gap it was safe we worked our way around the tree and tried all we could to get it to fail. After shooting for some time we felt more comfortable in the Kestral and on the Predator than we ever have in a traditional stand. After my son decided to read the directions I now see that we needed to tighten the buckle down even harder, so potential disaster averted.
I was sweating it not getting here before an elk trip and it arrived just in time. After only a half hour in the tree we both felt comfortable shooting and look forward to this great system. The constant communication from the Tethrd crew instilled confidence that they were doing all they could do for us to get up the tree as soon as possible.

He looks like a stone-cold killer! Good luck this season!

How are you transferring to your platform from your last stepp?

I put my platform between my linemans belt and my last step and I'm just stepping up on to it. It's not as far above the last step as it looks in the picture. Probably only a couple ft.

You should take real estate photos, looks like a three ft gap lol

I have read about guys extending there transfer to platform past a couple feet. I’d like to do the same, I recently purchased stepps and I’m going to use the knaider/ swaider method. Not sure how to get the extra height safely though?

I thought about just hooking the knaider to the end of the platform that would get a couple extra ft.

Sounds sketchy to me ...I have found it just makes sense to use a step almost at hunting height but I would put it as far left or right as possible and use it along w the platform to move around tree.

That was my only concern one of the reasons I didnt try it and the weight of one more step ain't gonna kill me lol

I think that's a much safer alternative. And it gives you more shot options. Win-win.

I’m wondering if you could tie a loop at the end of your tether and use it as an foot loop aider or put you knaider in the loop?

I did not mean to derail thread moving to another

Today was the 1st day I could get out and play with my Predator. I think I'm in love. I don't have any complaints. I guess it could use a little over-spray of a little darker gray/green, but that ain't much to be-otch about. One tiny "mod" I made was to put a wire tie around the loop on the buckle end of the strap...I hooked it onto the button and then put the wire tie on so the strap cannot come off the button. It's semi-permanent. I see no need to remove the strap so may as well make it permanent on one end. I can always easily cut the wire tie if I need to remove it.

One thing is for sure...I shoot WAAAYYY better on my off-side from a platform than I do from a ring of steps.
I thought I might want to add a step on each side so I could shoot around the back side of the tree easier, but I was in an 18" tree and had no problem shooting toward the back side.

Funny thing...I spend a couple hours climbing, adjusting, fooling, shooting Judo points in all directions, climbing again, shooting again and when I finally quit and climbed down, I heard a deer having a sneezing fit (NOT SNORTING) in my switchgrass patch 55 yards away. And it was downwind. These deer are used to me being outside working, but this deer laid in there, almost within bow range, the whole time I was messing with my toys. Pretty amazing how tolerant deer can be of us.

BTW, if Greg is reading this, check your PM box.
