Not sure the rules on this on the forum regarding this. One year my friend Will and I did a hunt with @DanielB89 in Louisiana for hogs. Perhaps one of the funniest best times of my life. I’ll let Dan tell you about my white dodge that got stuck on the four wheel only trail. 10 or so trad bow hunters all hunting, camping, and sharing meals together. We hunted public land and someone different cooked dinner for the whole camo every night. If somebody, say myself organized such an event would there be any interest? It would be a trad hunt, camp, and cook. Location could vary year to year probably a 4 or 5 day hunt. Public land. I would do research for licensing, use of land, and such and facilitate a meal sign up list. I’m thinking not more than 10 hunters. Breakfast and lunch on y’all’s own and dinner together. Game would probably be relegated to cheaper tags, hogs, white tail, small game etc. Any interest?

Been a minute since I've been on an out of state hunt. Following along.

Following...What State are you leaning toward? I would think a place with a lot of hogs and lots of land with no restrictions.

LA,MS,TN,KY, TX, VA and researching for more options. Suggestions welcome and I will research them. Ideally, I wanted this post to drum up the interest. Then I was going to go into research mode and narrow down 3-5 best options. Put it up for a vote with details listed for each including license cost and season summary etc. Then get a final list together of people interested then work out the timing. I like the 5 day ish window method which means we are gonna camp here between these days and you can come for the whole thing or just a few of the days as your schedule allows. Then the finer details. Meals, maps, etc.

I'd love to do it in MS for obvious selfish personal reasons (LOL) but our WMA regulations don't allow hog hunting except during another open season so that sort of limits it, outside of deer season to February 1st to February 28th, Then Turkey season (I'm guessing most would rather turkey hunt than hog hunt since the season is short anyway) and a short squirrel season in June, I think. If we could get together and lease a good bit of private land for a week that has a lot of hogs that would work. Also, I have not found good hog sign in the areas I hunt. We had them on that lease I was in but even then, it was hit or miss based mainly on water levels.

Off the top of my head, Lousiana has good hog numbers. I'm not sure about Alabama...maybe south Alabama? Georgia has them in the southern parts. Texas has lots of hogs but very little in the way of public access.

Water levels play a huge part and so do the acorns. I used to live in LA and they had hog open only during other seasons also which meant you could hunt hog the entirety of white tail season and of course the small game season too. This meant you had from September all the way to February for hogs and could hunt white tail during most of that also. And look hogs are great but we could hunt white tail also. Finding a place for both would be good too. Open to other suggestions. If we went to a good white tail place would could forget about hogs all together. Ideally I’d like to move this year hunt around a bit year to year that way we are not benefitting any one person and making the same member travel. Unless of course we found great success and decided as a group it would be at the same place.

Yeah, I get what you are saying in regard to the hogs vs deer angle. I'm just not sure where good deer hunting would be. I guess a state with very high deer numbers, over the counter tags and a ton of public land. We have the latter two here but not the high deer numbers. TN seems to have high deer numbers, from what I see on Catman's youtube channel.

I wish I could find info on the place I used to go outside Estill, SC. It was called Hog Heaven and then Wild Things, I think. Except for turkey season, no pew pews aloud.

I'm not on the book of faces, but I see Wild Things is still there.....someone get the low down for us. Advertised as trad only still.

Two of us in Colorado would be interested. Never hunted down in the Southeast! Sounds like quite the experience for us hill toppers!

I’d be interested. I typically do a week long out of state whitetail hunt each year, but depending on the timing, could probably squeeze another few days in.

Might check in to AR. Public land hog hunting isn’t great, but we have a lot of public ground, a long whitetail season, liberal bag limits, and a mild climate. I’m not sure on nonresident prices, limits, etc.. though
