OpLux with friction hitch options

And the tended TRC on my LB. Again, no preference between the two materials yet. I’m planning to use both for the rest of the season.

So you could use some of these instead of a ropeman or kong? One handed? What’s the load rating on these ropes?

The ropes are stronger than a ropeman and stronger than any fall you want to take. And yes they adjust wonderfully single-handed.

Yes, a tended friction hitch can easily be used one handed and in most scenarios would be safer than using an ascender.

Keep in mind the rope I'm using, Sterling OpLux, is a low stretch rope. You don't want to take a significant fall with any tether but a friction hitch isn't the main concern typically, it's your back breaking from the fall.

This is my tether, using a friction hitch on both my tether and LB.

Still torn between the Beal cord and TRC on my OpLux, both work.

I recently received my 9mm HTP and 6mm Sterling TRC with my mini kong.
I feel like I did a pretty good job putting it all together but sitting in the living room it didn't seem like it was catching good.
Just sliding over the new HTP rope with very little friction.

I haven't had a chance to test it out with weight on it but any thoughts?

Friction hitches can be hard to tighten by hand the first time. Your experience is consistent with what I’ve experienced. Find a tree and get it tight at ground level. I bet you’ll find that once it’s been tightened once, you won’t have the issue again.

I haven’t used TRC on HTP but I’d be really surprised if it didn’t work. However, some combinations are better than others.

I’ve got the same combo and it works great. Make sure the hitch is dressed properly and then pull it tight by hand. Then try hanging from it at ground level.

All that fails: Post a pic please.

I just switched to oplux and got some trc from DanO. Went with the distel and it works great. I haven't gone to a tender yet but thinking about it. Skyjacker, where did you get your shizzl and what caribiner is that?

Do you guys prefer them on your tether too? I use a prusik, but at times it’s hard to move.

I use a tender on my LB, but regular prussic on my tether-it doesn’t get adjusted often enough to bother with a tender for me.

Thanks to @DanO for the fast shipping!

I thought some of you might benefit from seeing a few pictures with various friction hitches and several material options on Sterling OpLux. All can be purchased at doublesteps.com

I don't really like cutting and retying of jammy loops. I usually use a Klemheist like the first picture with and alpine butterfly to shorten the jammy so it doesn't run out of room at the girth htch around the tree.
You could try a 3 over 2 asymmetric prusik with an uncut jammy as shown in the second and third picture. It might work OK without all those knots to come untied.

No Jammy’s were cut for any of the above hitches, DanO sells Beal Cordelette by the foot now. I prefer the flexibility of making my own hitches but thanks for the additional options.

I like the looks of the Klemheist if you’re sticking with the sewn loop.

What is the advantage of this knot over the Prusik? I’m scared that there is two more knots that you are relying on and taking care of over a Prusik tied with a jammy. What about using this with a “Prusik cord” that could mes with two sewn eyes

These hitches release (much, much) more easily after loading than a prusik. The advantage of terminating with your own knots is that you can control the cord length perfectly. Also I don't know of an appropriately strong similar sized eye to eye off the shelf.
