Late start into Wyoming and the Tetons today but was able to hit all the main pull offs around the whole loop. The highlight of the day was the 6x6 we saw on the way down front signal point mountain lookout. We also saw some pheasant (maybe) and a fox. Mrs. was on the pictures today while I glassed about. I have a couple others I want to share. We were able to get a spot at Headwaters campground between Tetons and Yellowstone. Zatarans box jambalaya was buzzing. We had a mad dash of a day in Yellowstone trying to hit all the sights. We were able to hit a good many of them and make a big loop up and around the park. I wish we would have seen more wildlife but we were blessed to see a lone Bison, some pronghorn too! Again, hard to not photo dump, but here are a few more from that day.

We waited almost 40 minutes to get a full blast from ole faithful. It was almost 25 minutes past when they predicted it would blow but we were glad we caught it in full action. It was good and hot and we got sunburnt a little. 6569CBC4-BDD4-4293-970E-90FAA60D898E.jpeg906CF9FD-7866-468C-9EF7-7646C42162BA.jpegC2A17E5A-24D4-48F3-9D96-146DFEF246DA.jpeg41E732D7-3643-4E5B-B097-DD3D6AC4E783.jpeg046F61A9-FD70-4593-96BC-A7C8539B23EE.jpegEFCEDDEF-7083-4822-8BE5-B903A5111592.jpeg

That sign is awesome. It always reminds me of Dumb and Dumber; “John Denver is full of ****.”
The Cabin Creek Campground is just outside West Yellowstone. Nice campground and far enough away from the madness.
We ended up staying at Cabin Creek Campground and it was perfect! We were beat and got in really late and they had spots available which was great. We were right on the creek and the wind was blowing hard so we went top down on this night and stayed nice and warm. We had steak breakfast burritos for breakfast and after a cold plunge in the creek we were on our way.

The campground was on/near Earth Quake lake which was made when an earth quake caused a landslide to dam up the Madison River killing 28 people on August 17th 1959. We were staying there on the anniversary of the disaster. We stopped by the overlook and visitorcenter and read about it. They had planes and para-shooters jumping over the lake and a survivor who was 15 at the time who giving a talk later in the morning.

After Yellowstone we called an audible and headed north to Glacier National Park instead of Crater Lake National park. It put us about the same amount of time out of the way and was well worth the trip even with all the smoke from the Canadian fires. We did the ‘Going to the Sun’ loop with just a little bit a daylight left we exited the park and found a spot on national forest land that you could drive down to the river bottom. We cooked up some steak quesadillas before heading out to find a place to camp. We were planning to drive further but got way too tired after two spots we checked were full. We ended finding an open camp at LOLO National Forest Cascade campsite.
at about 3:30 we were awoken to two people with Irish accents making all kinds of noise in the campsite across from us. They must have came in late. I’m the morning we found them cowboy camping on the ground and got a good kick out of it.

We cut across Spokane and followed the Columbia River up and around Mt. Hood and snagged a marion berry shake before heading south to our end destination of Salem Oregon.

I’m trying to convince the Mrs to hit the Grand Canyon on the way back but it’s going to be tight on time. Thanks for letting me share some of our trip!F32E212F-ECAB-4D42-A53D-C2E357017098.jpeg35097BEA-7DB9-4FB6-BF7E-31C174889B28.jpegCC1AB268-4860-4ACC-9618-0BAF4D05FC4B.jpeg0BDCCD77-8858-4844-9658-0AC3BDDF6A12.jpegBADCE5D1-2131-4E2E-B0EB-4B8A490C0D04.jpeg

This road trip isn’t over yet even though we’re headed home. We ended up dropping down to Crater Lake NP and doing the loop. It is another beautiful place to visit. We did a short 2 miles round trip hike down to the lake as well and I was able to cold plunge in the lake. Not as cold as I thought, very refreshing.

We didn’t make it far with a late start yesterday but we’re planning on camping NW of the Rocky Mountain NP in Colorado tonight to wrap up our trip. The following two days will be a bum rush home.
