Loden, feldgrau, OD Green, Ranger Green, khaki, etc., were all employed for military uniforms to make it harder to shoot the people wearing those uniforms. Any of them will probably work equally well. In your shoes I'd probably go with a grey or greyish-green like Ranger Green for an all-season all-purpose trousers. I'd avoid browns that approach the shade of deer fur, just to make it harder for drunken Bubba to shoot me by accident.
Most of my hunting pants are Walmart camo, mostly whatever Realtree or Mossy Oak is on sale at the moment. With the firm belief that camo patterns are developed to catch hunters rather than hide from deer, I mix and match and generally wear whatever is at hand when I get dressed. This year I mostly wore a pair of Big Bill wool cargo pants which are a somewhat brighter shade of green than I'd like, but still just fine.
