Perfect hunting kayak

Ok I’ve read this whole thread and I’m still debating, all I’ll be doing with this thing is traversing a canal and possibly other small calm bayous but not hunting from the boat itself. Just transporting me from point a to b. With that said I only have a backpack and my bow when hunting and like someone else’s said I dnt mind dragging a deer out float style bc it wont be being done every hunt. My biggest concern is not getting wet getting in or out and overall stability. With that said I grew up on pirogues, unstable little buggers but you can float on wet grass, and I’m not a fan of canoes, they pre flip city for me and I mentioned before I dnt need more than 400lbs carrying capacity. The prices for sit ins and sit ones is about the same, and I do like the potential of carrying a deer with me, let’s be real here guys in South La I’ve never shot a deer that was more than 120# gutted. But my debate continues between kayak sit in or sit on, I’ll be makeshifting outriggers regardless. Thoughts?

After having my Ascend 10 for a year, I have to say I would have to recommend it for you. Nice and maneuverable, doesn’t break the bank, often on sale, and extremely stable for a 10 footer.

Yeah I was looking at those but the weight drew me away. I ended up getting a pelican premium catch 100.

I've hunted from kayaks, I'll stick to my sportspal canoe from here on out. IMHO it's better than a kayak in every way possible no questions asked.

It’s practically a Jon boat with a gas engine. Haha

I have a 128FST ascend one of the older models. It is nice for trapping, hauling capacity can be dicey depends on what you're after. 4 beaver, roughly 150# plus trolling motor and battery plus myself gets a bit squirrelly.

Except it's not. I can paddle it, use the motor or pole it. It's more versatile than any kayak I've owned wether it's fishing, hunting or just taking a day trip down the river.

Only complaint with that set up would be the weight, my kayak is only 54# and i have some pretty far drags to get to water in some spots. And my furthest paddle is under 10 miles so i have no need for a motor. I dnt fish at all, its strictly to get me to better/different hunting spots.

Take the motor off and the sportspal is extremely lightweight only 55-60lbs and thats for mine and it's 15-16ft long.

That’s a pretty slick set up. I’m looking to get something like that for next season. I use a Jackson YuPik a lot. It’s extremely stable, I can stand up in it to fish and pack a lot of gear, but it weighs about 90#.

What’s the motor on that? Any issue using it in smaller/shallow creeks, like you would with a kayak?

Absolutely no issues with shallow water, if a kayak can go in it so can this, obviously not running the motor. The motor is a 2006 yamaha 4stroke 4hp. It pushes the canoe along at 11-12mph. This is also very very stable, I can stand up and walk from the back up to the front

Thats light AF for the length but thats too much length for me, i didnt want anything over 10ft so i can throw it on my overland rack and not have to trailer it.
