Phantom is For Sale

In past years I've seen it - he probably had it in a box somewhere - he pulled out some of his folding steps to show some other guys from a box under the table. But it's not the same as the one he had on the table. Don't be mad - go look at this pic from the Wraptor thread and imagine belt on the inside of the top section, and a linemans belt/molle loops like the Mantis on the outside of that same piece. Add leg loops (I didn't take a pic and can't remember if they connected to the bottom of the top, or the bottom of the bottom piece)... and a webbing bridge. That's the new one. The old one had no safety features like a belt at all.

Weight wise it was about the same as the Phantom in my hand. I joked with him that I tried a similar concept but I couldn't keep the pieces from falling down on the walk and he laughed and explained how he deals with that (tuck them together, tighten it a lot).

More than that, here's the tidbit I picked up from him in that conversation: Most guys in Michigan are willing to go in far. Going in a mile is not a big deal. He finds they don't often go across inconvenient water though. If you can walk through in your boots, it's not good enough to get separation from other guys. If you need waders, you're finally getting where 90% of others won't go. Cattail marshes are a good example. If a property doesn't have that separation opportunity, he's very likely to skip it entirely. The places I hunt barely have any good separation opportunity, and I might be ahead to spend my time travelling somewhere that does, instead of putting in more time where I am.
Ha ha, I'm not too mad about it. Your description is so good it's like I did get to see it
It sounds like you and I are hunting the same areas. The public land around me doesn't have any real separation opportunity either.
BTW, how did you insert a link into your post like that?

I don’t think there are any spots at the large public near me that even require chest waders. Easy walking trail almost 3/4 of a mile from most accesses. Earlier this year finally had an eye opener on an “overlooked” spot 100 yard from road and between accesses. Promising sign and habitat. No hunter sign that I could observe. I’ll be there in the fall.

To get somewhere 90% of guys wouldn’t go I’d have to drive 2+ hours most likely. In the future I’d have to plan my hunts around a weekend, not just a day, to make that happen.

My biggest takeaway isn’t always the distance or the water level either... it’s the amount of time spent scouting and in the field. When you take the whole fall off to hunt deer for 90+ days, or spend 400+ hours scouting a year... well you’re likely to learn to get onto bigger deer.

That being said I’m hoping to check out the signature saddle tomorrow.

That's good advice right there

I return a flex for warranty to Washington for a similar amount I know 37.91 Cdn or $28 US. The flex was warranty because of the flaky material.
I like the flex but I am hoping the phantom is as comfortable but more minimalist.
Most of the time there is duty, brokerage fees and gst but not always. That can add another $100 to the shipping. So really between exhange, brokerage, gst, shipping a saddle can be almost doubled. I guess that is why I am not cool with the cost of shipping.

What do you mean your Flex was warranty "because of flaky material"? All of the black has flaked off mine on the inside of the saddle and i just figured it to be typical wear?

the stuff was flaking and there an issue with the material pulling apart in places I think.

The first flexes had some quality issues that are fixed.
