Man, you guys are animals !
I have been overweight all of my adult life. At 42 I am feeling about 62 most mornings getting out of bed...creeks, pops, and moans!
I am currently around 270, and think I would be in my best shape around 215. Definitely would help the knees.
Around 10 years ago my wife and I got on a health kick and ate right and exercised hard. I lost 90 pounds, but have now gained half of that back. Wish I would have stuck with it.
I am currently doing some minor core and leg strengthening, but could really stand to kick it up. My eating habits are atrocious, so that is really where I need to start...

I lost 40 lbs last year. I found that diet and portion control to be the biggest factor in my success.

yup...eating right, working out right, staying active. all help currently doing intermittent fasting...high protein (though not quite keto like dave).

my highest was 230. My father was morbidly obese all his adult life. had to be close to 400 at his death in 2011....I never want to get there. 6 years ago I started my fitness endeavor. currently doing high intensity circuit training 3x/wk. running or interval training 3x/week, one 'rest day'. even did crossfit for a while. also doing rock climbing, and rock gym when I can.

in my 20s/30s I competed internationally in traditional japanese karate....my fighting weight was 180# (which always put me in the 'unlimited division' since they stopped the weight classes at 80 kg).....I'm currently at 218..and would love to get down to 200 again...although I was 212 when I did the Spartan Killington Beast 3 years ago...THAT was the toughest, most physically challenging event of my entire life. 16+ miles, summitting the beast 4 times...something like over 10k feet of vertical ascent combined, with somewhere around 50 obstacles...including crossing a 36 degree lake. total time was 9 hours and 20 minutes. one of those things you do once and say, 'well, thats done, never doing that again'. lol

I find having something to train for helps to keep me motivated. Current training for the Bonefrog Challege in May. 9+ miles 50+ obstacles all designed and run by current and former US Navy SEALs. was a blast when I did it in 2016. can't wait to do it again.

so, currently 218....turning 50 in July. trying to prove age is just a number.
 
I work out like crazy but I don’t eat good. I’m down 219 to 191 last week. I don’t eat terrible but I love sweets.

Salad for breakfast
Protein for lunch
Fruit for last break
Dinner subway or salad or taco salad
Then at some point during the day I will screw up and have a candy bar!

Like Tuesday I was on the treadmill for 1 hour said I burned 1000+ cal rode my bike for 5 miles at lunch but somewhere along the day I ate a 500 calorie sweet. Ridiculous!

@hickstick I was going to ask what your event schedule looked like this year. Mine is busy and capped off with a 50k Spartan ultra in August..... that one scares me a little.

I'm right there with you, been going to the gym 3-5 days a week before work lifting and doing the treadmill with a weighted pack but I eat terribly sweets, Moutain Dew, fried stuff you name it I really need to work on that!

Hey guys,

I bought an ambush saddle about 8 or 9 years ago and haven't used it in 5 at least. The main reason was weight, my knees and feet would take a beating.

My goal is to get back in the game and hunt out of my saddle again this year. I'm a month into KETO and IF and down about 12 lbs (276). I've got the diet part down, now I'm working on the physical aspect. Cardio, weightlifting, etc...

Nice. I'd like to get down to about 200 again. It's beens about 15 years now since I've seen that weight but I was about 6% body fat at that time. Those days are a memory. lol. I'm pretty happy about 210 lbs. If I want drop further my diet really needs to be on point or I need to sacrifice power. Another couple years it may make more sense to shoot for 190 and give up the strength goals.

Wish we lived closer, I think you would make a great hunting buddy and we have some common interests. That and I could always use a strong young fella to drag my big busks out :)
 
It might be a couple years. I'm lucky I got away to saddlepalooza with the little one at home. But we will make it happen :D

If you plan to have more kids, you better get to work. It’s better to knock that infant stage out as quick as possible. You don’t want an infant/toddler situation stretched out over 10 years or more. It’s also a stressful time on a marriage. Everyone stays frustrated! Lol once they 4 or 5, they can take care of themselves! Hahahaha it gets a lot easier and your wife starts liking you again.

I agree. We had our first group of kids early in our 20's. They are now 22,21, and 18. It was great when they all became more independent.
My wife and I are gluttons for chaos, though. We wrapped up adoption of three more children last year after three years of fostering them...a 5, and two 4 year olds. And now we also have a 4 month old foster baby, just because the other three were getting to that self sufficient stage and we needed more middle of the night feedings, screaming, and poop filled diapers!!!:rolleyes:

It’s no good white! I always cover my white bread with peanut butter, jelly, butter, mustard, ketchup.
White rice, oh man, got to have some brown gravy and smothered onions over that for it to be good, icecreme is always better with fudge or some kind of syrup. Alcohol, well..... I need to change my lifestyle

I don't think I can give up my basmati rice...best rice ever!!
A bowl of Kroger's big tub cookies and cream (best c&c ever) is the nightly bedtime go to. Definitely would benifit in limiting that.
Fortunately I don't drink alcohol apart from the occasional beer.
Biggest thing for me is portion control and mid meal snacking, as well as bed time snacking. And in between snack snacking....

I'm on the tail end of that period right now. My oldest boy is 5. Youngest is 2.5. Unless my wife pulled the goalie I should be close to the end.

There is nothing wrong with eating healthy during the week. It is hard. It took me a while to change. I started by eating well tues and thursday all day for about 3 weeks. Then switched to Mon, wed, Fri a another 3 weeks. Then Mon - Fri. You can cheat on the weekends, just do not over due it. Now I do not even think about it.

Another approach I've heard is the half approach. Take what you normally would of the unhealthy food and only eat half for a couple of weeks. Then cut that portion in half for a couple of weeks. And so on. Helps ease you into the change.

Yikes Ernie! I still haven't done an ultrabeast or even a hurricane heat. lol...to tell you the truth, with the pricing of these Spartans continuing to go up, I'm looking at smaller races. Bonefrog, FITchallenge (local...AMLAP (as many laps as possible)), etc and being 50....I'm happy to let you 'youngins' knock yourself out. lol

yea @BassBoysLLP I'm 5'7" and wide...(19 1/2" neck and 28" sleeve....sucks trying to buy dress shirts! lol) but ideally I should be somewhere around 200. when I was fighting at 180, I was strong but very little lean muscle...back then it was more about flexibility and speed. I've gained a ton of lean muscle so I don't know if getting back down under 200 is realistic.
