Platform Aider

with the aiders hanging down like that I would think they would cause movement in any wind and deer wld catch that motion

I am so happy with this system! It is slower to climb than my spurs but when you factor in the time it takes to strap them on and off it has to be close. It’s nice not having the spurs hanging in the tree as well, less clutter. It is working out great!

I am starting to wonder about cam cleats now. I have never tried one.

Has anyone platform climbed with the type of diy platform that the strap attaches to the foot base portion and cams over rather than the up right post?

Why do you have yours set up that way? I tried it and was never able to get the strap tight enough. The platform always pulled away from the tree. Either way, if it holds your body weight you should be good to go.

How is your aider attached to your platform? What knot are you using? Is it removable at hunting height?

How else would you set up a seat kit platform? I dont think I have seen pics of them set up any other way. I am all ears though cause I would not mind getting away from the cam buckle.

I’m sorry, I misinterpreted your post. I thought you had a platform like mine but the platform was at the top of the post. I don’t know why I thought that lol.

I would think you could do it. You can play with where it’s mounted. Right now I have mine hanging off the middle of the platform.

No I have a LW alpha seat, and the rest of the setup from Dano...short post and 2 stand off's. Have thought about putting a versa button on the post just above center and moving the seat to the top of the post. Just not sure how that would work out.

@Wirrex. How’s climbing with the platform been working for you this season? I’m considering doing this with my predator platform and ditching the single stick that I’ve been using. Have any tips or lessons learned from climbing with the platform this season? Thanks.

The aider being so far from the tree may be a problem. No way to brace your toes against the tree when climbing . Ymmv

Well, I had very little issues with my setup. The main thing slowing me down was the way I was tying off. It was difficult to untie, especially in the cold. A cam cleat would be the best way to go forward with this method. I would say, just like one sticking, you gotta rappel. I put the whole season into platform climbing and I think it’s great! I would recomend it to anyone that has been one sticking.

That all being said, I have made a major change in climbing. I picked up a lwhc from redsquirrel... BUT, I am using the same 2 step aider on it! It’s really pretty awesome. Set the lwhc at chest height, climb the aider, slip my feet in, and I’m off. Once I hit a limb I hang above it, remove lwhc, strap it on above the limb, and climb the aider right past the limb. I only have a few hunts on it but it’s pretty slick so far with zero practice. It’s only going to get better.
