Both, I don’t usually hunt telephone pole trees so a lot of times I need to turn around to shoot. But a ros can make a big difference in comfort and makes moving around the tree a lot easier when moving around the tree is the best option for getting a shot.

One stick with small platform (UP) and an intermediate platform EDP for long sits 4hrs+ or if I think the deer will come from multiple directions. As a right handed shooter I would position the UP 90 deg., clockwise from the EDP

One stick with UP shorter sits and sits where I am confident with direction of deer travel

ROS when I am still hunting and only plan to hang if I come to really fresh sign or a jump/dump

I feel more stable shooting from a platform than a ROS and I am more comfortable when using a platform

Before I was one sticking I would have 2 slotted, squirrel step on my platform strap. I would have the steps 90 deg. from my platform and about 180 deg. from each other. Once I added the one stick with the UP the squirrel steps were no longer necessary.

Onyx platform and 2 Squirrel steps on either side on OCB. Was a die hard ROS guy and then tried the Onyx and felt so much more comfortable on long sits. Like having a step on either side of platform just gives me more balance when needed. Adding the Squirrel step set up is offset by not having to pack and wear knee pads with the platform.

I changed out the ROS ratchet for a heavy-duty OCB buckle....much quieter!!
What OCB buckle are you using? I love the peace of mind that a proper ratchet gives me, but said ratchet weighs a full pound and I’m tired of it. The durability of the rivets on an OCB has always had me hesitant to commit, so definitely interested if you’ve found a sturdier one.
