Platform suggestion

Here's my prototype. My brother helped out alot while I drank beer and gave him a rough idea of what I wanted.

fbwguy,

Help me with the measurements. For the outer horizontal leghth it is 12 1/2". However if I measure the horizontal lenghts nearest the tree I get 2X3" + 6 3/8" or 12 3/8". These don't seem to match. So is your board not a complete rectangle with 12 1/2" X 10" or 12 3/8" x 10" sides, but more of a slight trapezoid with the longest edge at the outer horizontal position?

I used the measurements as a rough starting point. The most important part is the tab that fits under the step and closest to the tree. I used a WE Stepp but the measurements for the tab were exactly the same as his picture. After that you can do basically anything you want. I actually made my platform 15 inches wide and 9 inches long. It was a little flimsy and that's why I put the top section on. It's just added support and also gives me another option to put my heels into when I'm in the saddle.

My saw blade removed about 1/8th of an inch. Add that to the 6 3/8" and the two 3" wings and your there

nice. I like the idea. how many WE stepps do you use as your platform or does it vary by circumference of the tree? I just picked up the WE Stepps last month always was lone wolf and muddy step person. Still getting used to the WE but so far getting more used to them each time out.

I’m only using one step as platform and most trees are about basketball size. No problem shooting around tree off the platform and it’s large enough to rotate on for a 6 o’clock shot

You guys really know how make a fella jealous. I was supposed to have some wild edge stepps on order. Long story but now they are not. Nor are the primals. Not Wild Edges fault at all btw the fault lays squarely on this end. Im looking at my homemade platform and then this and just shaking my head.

I love my Gen 1 predator. I got through my whole first season without the platform making one peep, save for the only time I feel like I tightened it down to hard. I just let off on it a little and that solved the problem. That DIY platform is pretty sweet though. I might make one up just because.

I'm about to pull the trigger on some WE stepps. Bare with me as I try to wrap my head around this platform concept. If I go the knaider/swaider route, would I just set up another stepp next to my top stepp for a platform or can you guys pop that platform in while standing on your top stepp?

Seems to me that I read somewhere that the WE step has a slightly different shape and the platform insert doesn't sit quite right.
Can anyone chime in on that? Am I remembering correctly?

Get the Predator. Mine had a small squeak when I got it but with some bow string wax it hasn’t made a sound all season now. The Predator platform is a game changer in my opinion, it’s just rock solid even with my 250lbs of side pressure on it. I highly recommend it.
