Platforms

I have purchased the Mission precisely for the reason that it purportedly pairs with the Novix minis so well. If this proves not to be the case this will have to be yet another catch and release.

I feel a U2 song coming on.

They stack in the grooves well but the only good ways I could find to attach them is with gear ties or the tarp bungees with the ball. I'd honestly rather have a smaller platform I can drop in a pack and carry my sticks with a shoulder sling or something.

Man I’m in Arkansas which probably had a part to play in. It taking longer . But man I hope it gets here way faster. Man I’m hoping to really utilize that extra room on the platform . I got big feet man lol

They must've gotten slammed at some point. I ordered mine Sunday night and got it Wednesday, and I am in Arkansas, too.

My mission platform, covert lite saddle and gadget vest came in tonight.

The mission is one sturdy piece of kit and it has Lone Wolf DNA all over it. IMO, that is a good thing. Looking forward to trying it out tomorrow afternoon if the rains stops here.

Gadget vest is a neat piece of kit, but I haven’t given much thought if I will use it. It does have 4 retractable connections and 4 pockets in front, a place for a 3L water bladder in the rear, and what appears to be a sling or holder for vertical bow.

I am planning on ordering a chest rig, most likely a hill people gear kit bag. I would like the essentials (grunt tube, monocular, range finder, crossbow cocker, milkweed, headlamp, extra charger battery for phone, cable) readily available and not have to mess around packing and unpacking every hunt. And to have room to put my wallet, bear spray, gun and reload (gun and reload when not in NJ)

Just spent a few minutes with the covert lite. Nice saddle, some things I like, some I would like more if they were different. But that was only playing with it for a few minutes at home. More feedback to come later after a hunt or two. Then I can compare it to a kestrel flex (pre Merlin update).

I did get a USPS text about a package coming from Oklahoma. I can only surmise it is the Ridge Runner XL from OOAL.

That’s all I have for tonight. If I make it out to hunt tomorrow, I’ll update with any perceptions I have.

I have now been through several platform alternatives trying to "avoid" the Predator. Ameristeps, Primal Plywood, Podium, Treesuit, Mission (yet to receive and try this one).

Perhaps this is Quixotic of me, and I will end up on a Predator eventually.

Yeah that’s kind of what I’ve been doing too. Avoiding it for several reasons I guess. But the more platforms I try, the more it seems to be getting narrowed down to the predator. I’ll never really know until I try I guess.

I love my Hill people gear chest rig. Its great for the WMA's. Open carry is legal here but not on WMA's. I have one of the larger chest rigs. I found it feels a little different wearing under a back pack. So I run the bacpack support straps on my backpack straps and just remove the rest of the straps. Late season I pack a little more in. Early season I use a fanny pack and the HPG on its own.

Its great for having gear at the ready when needed.

I was able to try out my new mission today. I am very impressed. Carrying it will be a bit more challenging, but man did I feel much more comfortable on that thing versus the small predator I’ve used up until now. I also always used two squirrel steps with the predator—I don’t think I’ll need those now

also made this purchase, platform is awesome and i cant wait to try it in a tree... while i kinda like the vest, i'm mystified by the bow holder. is it just something you can set the bottom cam into to support the bow weight while holding it? or... how do you use it? I'm guessing they weren't that great of a seller if they're 10+ years old and marked down from 100 to 25 and included as a freebie with 200 dollar orders...

I think it is meant to support the bottom cam. That’s my best guess.

Platform is rock solid and very roomy in the tree. A little more challenging to transport. It is good and something I will keep and use. I did not try turning around and having my back to the tree, but I do not foresee any issue with that.

I did not take out the covert. Not sure what I am going to do. I may return it, and if I do, it will be in an unused condition.

I was hoping that the length from Linemans loop to lineman’s loop would be longer than my flex (not of the Merlin / flex version). They weren’t. And that makes it all but impossible for me (bad shoulders) to safely attach / detach lineman’s belt in colder weather with more layers of clothes on.

It is interesting, the ambush pro lb loops are further apart and they are bigger. Much better for me. But as a bigger guy, the ambush pro seems a little smallish. And I am not fond of stepping into a saddle.

That’s all I have for now.

I plan on using some voile straps. They have worked well on my minis. Gonna get some longer ones to try on the mission.

Now that everyone has or should have their mission platform. I wrapped my Buckle in foam tape, but it will only last for so long. What are y'all using to quiet down that noisy buckle when it hits the platform? If anyone has pictures of what they have done that would be great. Has anyone dip their Buckle in plastic dip? If so how well did it work?

Yak grips. I saw it on huntingbeast.com. They work nice. Other than that, bicycle tire inner tubes. I have both.

Innertube.

Guess I should order a mission. I ordered one from tethrd but haven’t heard from them. It’s been 2 weeks since I ordered it

I decided to trade my Mission for a Predator. Great platform but I wanted something more packable, like that I can drop in a pack. I liked the Mission but it's literally like carrying a tiny hang on, without a seat. Maybe it's because I'm not a huge guy. If I need more room I'll carry my XOP Vanish. But I think the Predator will be a nice middle ground between something like a Solo and the Mission or Predator XL.

I'm sticking with a regular Predator and Tree Suit platforms for this reason. I have a certain threshold (at least now when I am out of shape due to back injury that is healing) where I need to keep my pack around 18 lbs. If I get over 20 lbs, it starts to feel heavy much more than it should. So, I am watching every ounce. I even bought an ultralight branch saw that weighs 2 ounces and had to ship from the UK!
