Pods For A Cause (milkweed)

$825 grand total!
I wanted the credit to go to "saddle hunters" or some version of "guys who hunt from saddles", or something along those lines.
There was some question as to whether it should have officially been from saddlehunter.com, so Red and I agreed to go by another name.
However, I also wanted the donation go from my Paypal account (where you guys routed the cash) directly to SOWF. I did not want it going thru my bank account or other personal accounts. I wanted the money to have as a direct route as possible in case anyone had suspicions that there was funny business going on.
I saw no way to send the donation with credit going to you guys...there was no place to add a note.
But I have full intentions to contact SOWF and make it known where these generous donations came from.
I hope to post correspondence from them when I get it.
Again, thank you all so very much for your generosity!
I would like to continue doing this but there are a couple questions that need to be addressed before I continue...legal-type crap.
I will let you guys know if/when I resume.
Thanks again.
God bless you and God bless our troops.

One more thing.
I'm happy to report that there was only one dead beat among the guys that pledged a donation. Tracking says the package was delivered so I would assume the person should have it on their radar that they need to square up.

Can we just say we assume they ran into some hard times and the rest of us covered that person too. Keep all the good about this good.
Don’t send them anything else in the future or trust their word at this point but give benefit of doubt this time.
Of course if you don’t feel the same blast away. It’s your bus, drive it how you see fit.

Just keeping you guys in the loop. I contacted SOWF yesterday to request a thank you letter that confirms the donation came from you guys, not just me.
The donation was made thru the "Paypal Giving Fund". It seems that Paypal holds onto the money donated thru that fund for 15 to 45 days.
Personally, I think that's a load of crap. The money is in the account. Paypal should not hold it for all that time.
Regardless, here is the reply we got from SOWF. When they get the donation they will issue a thank you to "Saddle Hunting Patriots" and I will post it. Stay tuned.

Good Morning Thomas,

Thank you for your support to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

I wanted to follow up in reference your phone call inquiry yesterday about your recent contribution to the Foundation.

Did you make this contribution via the Paypal Giving Fund? If so, your contribution is still in the pending process and has not yet been received by the Foundation.

The donation delivery policy from the Paypal Giving Fund are sent on a monthly basis and typically takes 15-45 days after PayPal Giving Fund’s receipt of funds.

I have notified our accounting manager to please inform me when we do receive your contribution to ensure a custom thank you letter is prepared.

Warm Regards,

Angel C. Mason

I was just thinking this morning that i need to get some milkweed, then this post popped up. Would love to get some if you still have some available. Either way will make a donation.

After I had written in the thread Vets sound off I got to thinking about the folks who support the folks who serve. So I will add my thanks here. Tom thank you, to you and your wife for leading our community in such a wonderful cause. I know the focus on Veterans' Day is, and should be on the veterans themselves. But, I would like to extend my appreciation to the people who support our veterans, the wives and husbands, The families of veterans, and good folks like you Tom, and your wife, and all the other good people who don't forget. Those who act, and those who selflessly call others to action. I know I've said it before but I'll say it again, Thank you.

Thanks Kurt and thank you to our heroes.
And if anyone would like another way to donate, check out my wifes jewelry. Very nice stuff for a fair price. Nice gift for the lady during hunting season when a lot of us are in the dog house...lol.100% profit goes to SOWF. She has raised around $35,000 so far.
PM me if you want more info.

@Allegheny Tom , thanks for the milkweed. Has been working great, and your system of putting the rubber band around it and keep it in the pod has worked great. Surprisingly durable. Thank you.

PLEASE, When you guys send me your shipping info, make sure its complete and correct. Double check the info before you send it to me.
Ive had several guys omit details like zip code, last name, etc. I've also been given incorrect info. I understand that sometimes we accidentally key-in the wrong number or letter and spell check seems to like to screw with or minds, but please help me out and double check before you send it to me.
When I get faulty info, it doesn't make shipping any easier for me. It often delays when I can ship because I wait for guys to check their PM box to clarify things.
Since I want to get pods in your hands asap, sometimes bad info causes me to make another trip to the post office.
BTW, @Kwfranklin88 ...check your PM box.

I wasn't sure where to post this so I stuck it here.
Seems like more and more guys are interested in using milkweed but they have trouble obtaining it.
Some generous guys on this forum have been kind enough to ship and share what they pick.
I will do the same but with a slightly different twist.
Im willing to pick and share for the cost of shipping, but I also thought I would like to ask for a donation (amount of your choice) that will go 100% to Special Operations Warrior Foundation that benefits the families of fallen special ops soldiers (Seals, Rangers, etc).
My wife has a small hobby business of making jewelry and she donates 100% of profits to SOWF. She has donated a little over $30,000 as far.
I thought we could help the cause and add some donations via milkweed. No amount is too small.
I just sent 5 leftover pods from last year to a forum member and the shipping was $4. And he added a generous donation. I would like to continue doing this if you guys are up for it.
I also will add one clip to attach the pods to coats or pack.
Let me know what you guys think.
One small issue...our local milkweed here won't be ready to pick until September unless I come across some early stuff...not sure if that happens around here.
PM me and I can start a list.
Thanks in advance.
Tom
Edit...see post #7.....
Pm sent

The main rush for pods has let up but we still have a few guys getting pods and donating.
Over the last few weeks, we got another $195 in donations, and as before, I will pick up the shipping cost so any amount given is 100% donation to SOWF. Our current total is $1,020 for SOWF. Nice job!

Full disclosure...
I'm going to forward the funds a little different this time. I will send SOWF a check for the $195 because I really disagree with the PayPal policy of holding funds for charities for ~45 days. That is ridiculous. If I buy from a merchant with Paypal, the merchant gets the money immediately. When you guys send me money for pods, I get it immediately. So why should a charity wait ~45 days for the money to "clear"?? Seems sleazy to me.

I will still accept Paypal for donations but I will pay SOWF via a personal check. I'm still trying to figure out how to transfer Paypal monies into my checking account...I tried it a few years ago and it was mass confusion.
I just want to be completely open and honest with you guys as to how 100% of your contributions are going thru me and 100% to SOWF.
I will post all correspondence from SOWF regarding receipt of our donations.

If anyone has any concerns on how I'm doing this, please don't hesitate to speak up.

Thank you Saddlehunting Patriots.
God bless you.
Tom
