Post season workout encouragement thread! 2022 EDITION!!!!!

When you start saying Tony's lines before he does then you'll know you are doing P90X. "The mother of all workouts." "Breath. Breath harder."

Trails dried out enough for me to mtn bike on Tues. Immediately caught stump with my pedal that stopped the bike but not the rider. Fortunately the ground is soft this time of year. Took Wed off then decided to go on an easy run last night since I was still hurting a bit. Ended up going a slow 10 miles. Now the old bones are really hurting.
Yeah I ran into that with Insanity and Asylum. The workouts are so much more tolerable without the music that’s on the DVD. I usually have no DVD music and put on my radio in my pole barn.
OUCH! Hope you recover from that fall, that sounds painful. I did a number to my back over the winter from a fall on some black ice. Alcohol was involved so it was kind of my fault lol. Luckily I was able to power through.

A torn meniscus dogging me combined with Covid causing my company to put me on work form home status permanently has put a SERIOUS hurt on my fitness/waist line!

As such, i took advantage of Noom which was free as my company paid for it. I DO NOT normally believe in these types of things but figured id try it as my ability to exercise has been hampered. Lost 7 lbs on it in two weeks already so im rather surprised. Appears to work if you engage with it as it gives you a sense of accountability and mindfulness to what your eating and doing every day.

Hopefully losing weight will help with the knee thing and can get back to my normal activities/fitness by next season, good luck to all in a similar boat.
I can't speak to Noom, but diet is huge for weight loss. If you look at how many calories even serious exercise burns, it's so easy to undo with eating too much.

I've never been heavy by most standards, but definitley put on some in the last 5 years. It only came off when I started paying attention to what I was eating and how much of it.

I dont know how much pain your torn meniscus is giving you,i have a macerated one(shredded) and i can do most exercises no problem. I dont play basketball or soccer anymore because the fast cutting action is what kills your knee.
You may be surprised what you can do with a torn meniscus to keep up your leg strength. That strength is what will help your knee immensely.
Everybody's knee issue is different though,i am lucky that mine is very much painless.

Asylum is officially in the books! I’m now officially onto phase 3 of my offseason workout goal. Phase 1 was to finish Insanity, done. Phase 2 was to finish Insanity Asylum, done. Phase 3 will be a 12 week hybrid schedule of Asylum and running. Still on track to run the half marathon in June.

Tying this to bow hunting, I shot for the first time since December and I noticed I can hold my bow much more steady on target. It seems all those push ups and planks actually did something good!

Awesome!
Halfway through P90 this week and it should be dry enough to add mtb to the activity list.

Here is my update.

I'm at 31 min and change for 5k. My goal was 30 min 5k by June. My hang up is that I'm doing the 31 min with about 7-8 minutes of walking included in that 31 min.

So I'm slightly modifying my goal to simply be running a 5k without any walking by June which will definitely put me under 30 min anyway.

That is great. I have been taking a week off,my knees were acting up a little and my arm was sore as heck after my first round of the vaccination. Back at it tomorrow hopefully.

That’s so awesome man! Keep up the good work, it’s all up in your head. Every time you go out there on the road, you are getting stronger. Don’t be afraid to up your mileage if you’re able to, even if you’re walking/running. You can also do tempo runs that are 2 miles or less but at a faster speed to really get your heart rate up for longer. You’ll be rockin sub 30 by June no problem.

Way to go man, keep grinding it out!

As it gets hotter, I think your modified goal is the way to go. My times are 15-30 seconds per slower than they were 45 days ago.

Keep after it!

Here's a decent DIY workout rig I ran across similar to TRX straps built with crap we probably already have laying around. Do a search of TRX workouts for different movements if ya want. The suspension workout posters are pretty cheap too and you can hang it up right next to your DIY TRX rig.

awesome updates guys... so far I've just been running during my lunch hour
.. typically 3-4.5 miles... down about 5 lbs since late Feb.... slow going but im just happy it's going in the right direction... even that takes discipline with 3 kids under 5...
Yikes and I thought it was hard with 1 kid under 1 lol. Keep up the hard work and all the best to you and your family!

Fell off the posting a bit... Have been enjoying the spring weather with a variety of outdoor activities, biking towing the kids in the trailer is quite the workout, there's almost 100 lbs back there. I've also been exploring with my hobie outback (peddle) kayak, haven't had much luck with the perch but tearing up the catfish. Need to get more serious about the running training, as I've also signed up for a few races towards the end of the summer/fall, mixed bag ending with the DC rock and roll half in October. Keep the motivation going gents, you're all killing it and season will start back up before we know it. I know I want to be in better shape, and you do too! If you've fallen off the bandwagon like I have once or twice, here's your invitation to get back on!

I am still plugging away. Ran 4 miles Saturday, felt great to go at an easy pace and not be totally wiped at the end. A true “recovery run” as my old XC/track coach used to call it. I’m happy to see people are still sticking to it. If you haven’t been, don’t beat yourself up because it’s definitely not easy. Just get back on that horse, any exercise is better than sitting on the couch boozing.

You guys probably thought I gave up, eh? Been busier than heck with a 11 month old and we’re selling our house. I’m still somehow treading water with this training. I ran 5 miles on Saturday and felt amazing. Best I’ve felt on a run in a long time. I also goofed up when I set up my race day and I figured out that my actual race is gonna be July 3rd. That would be the end of the 13 week training.
I hope everyone else is still out there crushing it on the exercise front. It’s starting to get really nice outside so don’t hesitate to take up rucking, trail running, biking, walking, etc if you’re new to this. It’s never to late to get out there.
I’m hoping to get up north soon to scout some land I got permission to hunt this winter. Sounds like there’s some really nice deer there and I’d be the only one there for archery season. Can’t wait.
