Post season workout encouragement thread! 2022 EDITION!!!!!

I have been slacking on my running for a week. When I say running, I mean 2 min runs then walk till I catch my breath then repeat kinda runs. I'm bad but it's a start. On a different note, I'm back to benching 315 again, feels good.
315, DANG! I'm lucky to bench half that. Probably doesn't help that I'm built like a stick figure.

Here is my update. Running 27 min 5k's with no breaks and no problems. Only issue I've had is my treadmill died so all of my runs have to be outside now. So I've been running at 5:30am to avoid the heat. I've been increasing my route and plan to slowly work towards 10k.

To those of you said you could only run 2 min and then walk until you catch your breath. Keep up the hard work, you will be improving in no time.

That is awesome man! Keep up the good work! Running is a lot like climbing a mountain, you just keep building up your tolerance as you up your mileage. Piece by piece you feel better and run further.

Update on my running journey. Had a setback with a toe injury so I've had to scale back on the running a bit. Cost me a lot of big mile days but I'm still pushing through the pain. The furthest I've yet to run is 8. I did 5 the other day and have been keeping up with my cross training when I can. The high temp days were absolutely brutal to run in, I couldn't even make it 4 miles on the 100% humidity days even in lower morning temps. Between the heat and the toe, I had to call it quits on a few long runs. After my 5 miler two nights ago, I felt way better and the temps aren't as blazing hot. I'm still shooting for a July 3rd half marathon but depending on how I'm feeling I might have to push it back. That remains to be seen though, I think I'll be ok. I'm excited to start throwing some trail cameras out on some of the properties I'm hunting this fall. Hopefully I won't get carried away by ticks! Hope everyone is still doing well with their offseason training. Drink lots of water throughout the day!
Those set backs suck man but way to stay positive and grind through it! And even if you don’t get to run the the half until later in the year then that’s fine. The journey getting back into shape is the ultimate goal and you’ve done a great job doing that

Thanks for the encouraging words. Yeah it’s kind of a nagging injury, right foot big toe. It feels like a bone bruise or something, not even sure when it happened. It could have been from my steel toe work boot but I'm not sure. It doesn’t hurt enough to stop running entirely but it’s also annoying enough to cause discomfort. Went for a 4.5 mile run last night, felt really good. I’ll probably ice it real well tonight and try to go for a long run tomorrow(maybe closer to 9 or 10). I need to get at least 2 big mileage runs in before the 3rd otherwise I'm gonna get slapped in the face when I try 13.1 for the first time. Just gotta push through it.

You’re welcome man. Ice and a ton of Ibuprofen! If you’ve got access to a bike I’d use it in place of the short runs during the week. I do that sometimes to give those little injuries a break. Keep at it and don’t forget to taper. I’d say if do 8 this weekend and you got a 11-12 mile run in at once before the 3rd then you’d be good. Back to back long runs like that can do more harm than good if you’re not used to consistently putting in that mileage so be sure to have a week rest or two between

Time to get serious I just had my first born son on Memorial Day and hoping to lose this baby weight in the coming months. I pulled the trigger on a Peloton and it was delivered yesterday. The plan is work my way up to 4 rides and 3 run/rucks a week.
Congrats on the little guy! Welcome to the grind of parenthood and also welcome to the grind of exercise haha. Exercise is a great way to blow off some steam from the frustrations of parenting and just life in general.

Knocked out my timed half-marathon this morning before it got hot. I’ve got the next week off from work so I figured I’d start my break on a good note. Finished with a time of 1:41. Pretty pleased with how it went. Now I begin to get in elk shape, lots of weighted rucks in my future!
Good luck to anybody running their half this weekend and for those who are still a few Weeks out, keep grinding!

Good for you guys running that kind of distance. I know its all mental for me but long distance running isn't my thing. I prefer more of a crossfit style cardio, keeps me entertained. Now running the hills here in Pennsylvania is a lot different than what I experience in Colorado chasing Elk, that humbles you quickly. I am in great shape for my local area and terrain but you western guys are on a whole other level!

Good for you man, that is an awesome time! Mine is fast approaching, I’m a little nervous for the weather but not much I can do about it.

I’m sure you’ll do just fine on it! You’ve been grinding hard. I went the night before and dropped some water bottles on my route cause I hate carrying water when I run. May be something to think about doing to beat the heat

That’s a really good idea. I’m having a buddy of mine ride with me on the bike and he’s gonna carry some energy gels and water for me. It’s going to be right near Lake Michigan so hopefully I’ll get a nice breeze off the lake to cool it down.

Sounds like a winning recipe! That’s a good buddy you’ve got too.

Got out Sunday morning and knocked out 6.5 miles running. Monday was another mile in the pool. Last night I banged out a 4 mile run after work. Cycling class tonight. Another run tomorrow and a mile in the pool. My first triathlon Sunday!!!
