Post season workout encouragement thread! 2022 EDITION!!!!!

View attachment 61708
built my home gym in this house Dec of 2019. But I’ve always had a gym at home. Been a personal trainer, fitness consulting business and in the fitness world for 18 years now. I’m all about it, nowadays I workout hard to make hunting easier. i could talk about this stuff all day lol
Nice collection of fleck plates there.

I haven’t worked out in years. I’m running around on my feet at work so I have been getting my steps in, but that’s about it. I’ve always been overweight, or rode the lost weight gained back roller coaster. I got down to 200# from about 220 over the last year and Just lost another 10# over the last month or so. My diet is intermittent fasting…..meaning I basically eat once a day, usually right before bed. I pig out when I eat and often times it’s junk food.
However, Losing weight doesn’t mean getting in shape. I have felt so week, I finally started doing push-ups each morning. 2 weeks ago, I struggled to to 5 push-ups. This am I did 20. Been riding the bike a little too. …..I’m trying to get stronger but I need to quit smoking too. I’m having way to much fun to die this young!

Thats awesome! It starts with baby steps and the main thing after that is just consistency. Consistency is 80% of the battle. The smoking thing is hard, im on the quit smoking journey also but ive never felt it affected my workouts, i still do my routines and run my 2 5ks a month. Quitting drinking was what saved me, it was killing me much quicker and more efficiently than the cigs. But I digress, like i told my dad whos 59 yo, the 2 most in shape people ive ever met in my life are both in their 50’s, granted these both were lifelong military members but my point is dont let age be an excuse, 50 today isnt what 50 was 20 years ago. People have been telling me my whole life oh what til youre 25,30,35 blah blah blah, im 35 in 2 years and im in the best shape of my life which isnt bad considering i spent my 20’s in a high tempo military unit. But the kicker is it starts with baby steps and after that consistency will rue the day. As always, stay frosty. And remember its a marathon not a sprint.

I just tuned in to this thread and man, some of you have some very impressive home gyms! I've been working out for years. I got really into it in college and spent 3 to 4 hours a day in the gym and was doing 1000 sit ups twice a week in my prime. Since high school I have hovered around 150 pounds and even in college when I was working out like crazy, I only got up to 165 at my heaviest but i was about 3 or 4% body fat. I've been back at the weights over the past month, and I feel sort of like I did back then. There is never a day where I don't have some sore muscle group, lol.

These days I focus a lot more on stretching and range of motion as well.

I’m in, need to lose about 20 pounds and just be more active.
Trying to at least do body weight exercises every day.
Also have the TRX suspension straps that I do workouts on at least 3 times a week.
Weighted back pack walks on my breaks at work. Also just got a sandbag set that have in the back of my truck so I can do some sand bag work outs.
Quite honestly, the biggest thing I’ve done for my health is stopped smoking about a month and half ago. That’s been huge.

Reading through all the posts are great, keep it going everyone.

Also going to work towards doing the Murph this year on Memorial Day.

I’ve never done it before but planned to do it this year too.

Murph is a great one, getting a weight vest was a great addition to my home gym.

I have used Murph as a challenge the past 3 summers. 1st time on Memorial Day and see how much you can improve by Labor Day.

1 Mile Run

100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 squats

1 mile run

with a weight vest if you can.

workout was named after LT. Michael P Murphy, it’s a pretty mainstream crossfit workout.

Going to be 38 this year and for the past 20 years I have been working out basically the same way. Weights with cardio mixed in. I have not worried about how much weight I can put up for several years now and I am more into training my body for longevity. I played ice hockey for most of my life and I realized I need to train like an athlete again. I can tell I've lost a lot of that skill and movement. So today I am going to start incorporating more athlete style training. A lot more box jumps, foot drills, etc. Its a fact that you will lose it if you don't keep doing it.

Nice!

One recommendation, you should store your Concept 2 with the handle against the cage, not in the handle slot.

What's the Murph?

1 mile run
100 pull ups
200 push ups
300 squats
1 mile run

With 20lb vest or body armor

It’s done in honor of Lt Michael Murphy who died in Operation Redwings (think Lone Survivor) as that was one of his routine workouts.

Very true, ive recently started doing box drills again and come drills. Its crazy how that coordination goes away after some years lol
