Predator Cracked

Mine was at ground level, I had a buddy over who is thinking about getting into saddle hunting, he weighs the same as me about 230, I cammed it over by hand, told him to step on and it made a noise, I assumed it was the bark or something, it wasn’t loud or anything, nothing you would really notice, he stood on it for a couple minutes and we headed inside, he was looking it over and noticed the crack, it was definitely nothing we did, like I said it looks like a brand new one but yes I cannot guarantee that.

I am definitely going to inspect mine after coffee. I got mine earlier this month and inspected and saw nothing that alerted me. The edges were pretty sharp from the casting so wrapping the strap around concerns me for transporting.

Do you not think it is deserved?
Some yes, some no. Because of their origin and some of the larger saddle personalities being associated with them, they’re very polarizing. I’m thankful for what they’ve done well and put off by what they haven’t.

I use Tethrd gear and am happy enough not to buy more stuff, but I wouldn’t tell anyone they need to get what I got, if that makes sense.

I know it doesn't mean much and I don't even use any of Tetherd's stuff but I don't think the spot they cracked would have ended up with catastrophic results like you ending up on the ground. Still definitely needs to be addressed though and I probably would be p*ssed if it happened to me after shelling out that kind of cash.

Im on 5 hunts with mine. Im a big dude and weigh in at 255. Just inspected mine and it looks fine. Just and FYI.

Mine arrived with a hair crack in the same spot. The response from Tethrd was that they had a bad lot and thought they found all the defective ones.

What did they tell you to do about it?

The difference appears to be your adjustment screw hole is more in the center and mine is closer to the bottom. You see that? Hmm.....

Also the casting number on mine is a 5 digit. 102920 vs what looks like a 10920.

ETA: Yep looks like mine is centered much batter then the cracked 2. Possible there was a production change. Looks like a different mold based on casting numbers.

I’m not gonna tell someone how to spend their hard earned money but after the Gen 1 fiasco there’s no way I’d be giving them my money. If the platform said “HAWK” you’d have 10 pages of people ****ing on it before noon tomorrow. Best of luck though, I’m sure they’ll send you another one.
I have seen this as well.

The "not catastrophic" failure seems like the same response everyone had about the issues with the GEN 1. Mention a "recall" and you're accused of putting some good 'ol boys out of business.
Looks and seems to me that they haven't changed they're business model or philosophy. On top of the "made in USA" tag being misleading or outright false.
Keep buying their products and not hold them accountable and this will never change.

So what happened with the Gen1 Platforms?
I didn't explain enough. I meant I have seen people apologize all over for Tethryd but criticize others for the same type of things. I only know about Gen 1 platforms what I have read here. Apparently some of those cracked.

Got it. Im not one to brand leg hump or poop on any one product. So far I have been happy with their products. The real tell is how they take care of things in the end. I hope they take care of it. Based on the pictures I am going to say we know what the cause of the crack it. A simple enhancment would be to drill the threads out and put a larger spacer on the bolt. This would take the stresses from sharp cut threads in a cast housing and load the face of the casting over a larger area.

I would love to see a machined or water jet cut platform. Not sure what that would do to the cost, do know what that would do to the strength.

Checked mine and it looks good to me. Like previously mentioned I received it earlier this month. I had to wait for the “new” batch to ship out that is why my order came in two shipments. Anyways hope this adds to the conversation.

I suspect that number is a casting date code. I also believe the threaded hole would be drilled and tapped in a secondary operation after casting. The positional offset would likely be due to a poor setup run.

Absoulutely. As long as they send a good product in the end they are good. Every manufactured item has some defects.
