Pulling the tether out of the tree after rappelling

I am new to 1-stick climbing. I am practicing and getting better. One of the issues I have is retrieving the tether/rappel rope out of tree after the climb. I am using DynaGlide tied to a string just behind the knot holding the Petzl Oval Screw Link.

Any rough bark or limbs is making retrieving my rope difficult. Is there any tricks, other than climbing smooth trees with no limbs?
Try tying the dynaglide cord directly to the front of the Petzl screw link in front of where it captures the downward rope. You’ll have more leverage, sometimes it also helps to pull outward away from the tree before you pull straight down to create some slack

Tip: don’t stand at the base of the tree. Back away at least 5-10 feet from it. That made a significant difference for me. I use an aluminum carabiner behind the knot. I don’t know for sure but I think the ability for the pull point to be able to slide around may also have an effect.
This definitely makes a big difference.

It seems most advise to clip behind the scaffold knot, but I had so many issues as well. I started simply cliping my Dynaglide directly to my quick link with a really cheap novelty camo caribiner. No issues since I started doing that. You sometimes have to pull really hard on that dynaglide, but I haven’t had to one-stick back up since I switched lol.

If that is working for you, do it! Might suggest a better quality clip just in case! But I’m all for if it works and YOU like it, then do it!

I carry my bow up, but let it down via paracord. The other end of said paracord gets hooked to oval, or right behind it. Preferably on the oval. It’s almost fun getting it down anymore. My SRT Rope had he preset paracord hooked to the oval and it came down with relative ease.
