Question for carbon arrow builders

Cheap enough that I’ve never bothered to look at the price. The dollar stores here all carry it so I’ll check next time I’m in there to restock on salted in the shell peanuts

I know the crazy glue gel is literally $1 for 2 small tubes. I buy a pack whenever I buy arrows, square the ends, and slap 'em in. Save the other tube for around the house stuff.

another vote for hot melt, been using it for over ten years. have had a few pull out, but its reversible so its worth it to me to be able to change inserts if I decide to go with a different weight broadhead.

I’m really a fan of Easton Axis arrows. I can “chamfer” down the flat end, and don’t have to worry about tuning my inserts, I can trim the shaft of the arrow to fly with my fixed blade heads. This is essentially the same process we used to do with hot melt and aluminum shafts years ago.
Heat and spin the insert; until the arrow would pass spin test and then group well. Man, the 1990’s sucked.

Thanks again for all the info. i ordered up some of the blue hot melt....will be nice to be able to change inserts around and play with different arrow weights

I use the loctite ultra gel for my feathers. Strongest glue I’ve used. Always available at Walmart or Lowe’s. I usually keep good stock of it. 1 tube will do a doz arrows.

For anybody interested....
I just got the blue hot melt in the mail and the instructions say for broadhead adjustment and insert removal submerge in hot tap water (as hot as your faucet will allow) for 10 seconds.

Also, you can get one of those electric cup warmers. We used to have one for dipping quick fletches.

The blue stuff is legit.....200gr insert with 300gr field point that is a larger outside diameter than the arrow shaft. Shot into my bag target 10 times. Insert didnt budge. Torture testingIMG_20190607_203726.jpg

Hot melt holds great, never lost an instert in a target, did lose one in a tree after missing a doe but that another story.

Hot melt for me for inserts and broadheads (trad). Never had one pull out. Here’s a link to a video I did. Now... before anyone gets all up in arms, I am NOT directly applying flame to the carbon. I am waving the arrow shaft high enough over the flame to get some heat. As in very little heat. You just gotta be smarter than your tools

If this process concerns you, then by all means heat the field tip like everyone says. Remember though, if you’re not careful, you can still overheat the carbon with either method.

Iused a tea candle to heat it and just held the inserts by the threaded end. No chance to overheat cause you couldnt hold it. The hot water made removal super easy. My fingers may be a little less sensitive to heat than other peoples though. Ive been shooting the arrows with the hot melt all weekend with no problems. I have the 3rd hand rag bag filled with shrink wrap which makes me have to use an arrow puller ever arrow...between the shrink wrap fill and the deep penetration with these heavier arrows i would call the blue hot melt good to go

I use rod tip repair glue stick over the blue stick. I’ve never had one pull out plus I’ve got enough end eyes to repair a dozen broke fishing poles.

I own a small archery shop. I've been dozens and dozens of arrows. I have used several different glues, but I can't beat the hot melt. It holds great and allows me to swap something up easily.

I never had any issues with other glues....i was looking for the ability to swap inserts around. I tried removing inserts with the other kinds of glues and was able maybe 1 or 2 out of 12 arrows. They would come out but damage the arrow.

I gave up on it because with certain targets you will lose inserts or they will back out (I did all the prep mentioned above). However, I think with certain bag targets with a soft, non-grabby interior, it might work just fine. I switched to gel gorilla glue for blazers and inserts and am happy with it.
