Ranch fairy test kit

Well, outside of seeing this too late to be beneficial (I already ordered a kit by the time I saw the thread), I had a question for those that have gone through "the process." When testing bare shaft, are you adding any weight (like tape or something similar) to the tail end to simulate the weight of the fletchings? I don't want to shoot with fletchings, as their corrections would negate the point of bare shaft shooting, but I would imagine simulating the weight on the tail end would give the most accurate representation of how the arrow comes off the string before the fletchings start doing their job. Thoughts?

You guys are very generous to each other! I’m glad to be a part of a forum of friends and fellow hunters! I make bow strings (not for a living anymore, just for fun) if anyone ever needs anything in a pinch. I would be happy to help!

I just built a hunting arrow using .250 spine Black Eagle Carnivores, 200 grain ethics archery insert/outsert, and 125 grain heads. Total arrow weight was 623 grains with 23% foc. These shoot perfect with field points at any distance (so far out to 60-70 yards anyway). When I was going through the process, I found that my bareshafts flew the best with 100 grain inserts and 225 grain shafts. So I reverse engineered my hunting arrows keeping the point end weight the same. The fletching weight is insignificant during the process if you end up with a higher foc than 18-19%. Dr Ashby (and the ranch fairy) actually quoted that when foc is higher than 19% the point weight begins to pull the arrow rather than the nock end pushing the arrow. This makes clean arrow flight easier to obtain!

This arrow actually works for my 66# and 71# draw bows. I think as long as the arrow is coming off the bow straight, and the spine is correct, you will have good results.

I'll admit I've watched so many videos, I probably missed more than I absorbed. I'll review the videos again, but it's good info to know. I know the fletch weight is minor, but I was thinking of getting as close to real world scenarios as possible, with taking a big component out of the equation. Thanks!

No problem, hit me up with any questions you might have...I have an engineering background, and I like to tinker a lot with arrows and such. I should be able to help, or I know the right people to ask! Pm me if you want and I will give you my phone number if that helps also! Good luck and enjoy the learning process of this!

Is it too late to jump on this list. And would someone be able to talk me through the set-up if I get stuck. I've only recently learned about this high FOC arrow build but it seems promising. I spined a deer a few years ago and it just never settled with me. I want to know that my shot is going to do it's job.

Guys, I have a set that I will add to the rotation. My arrow setup is good for both of my hunting bows! Let me know who is next and send me your address in a pm. All I ask is pass them on when you are happy. Please ask questions if you have them also, I think there are several guys who are qualified and more than willing to help. I live close to the ethics archery guys also! They made these kits (for anyone who might not already know).

@gcr0003. Am I next up for this kit or does it go to one of the other guys first?
