Random Musings From Your Resident Contrarian and Underage Curmudgeon

Don't get me started.

I hate ebikes. I hate ebikes on public land. I mostly hate ebikes when used illegally on public land. I'm sorry but if you're not willing or able to walk X miles to the spot then you shouldn't hunt there. You're old and can't walk anymore? I'm sorry. Time will catch up to me and everyone else someday too. There are plenty of overlooked spots within walking distance.

I hate illegal ATV and dirt bike use on public land. I hate even more the blatant disregard when a hunter uses it as described in my ebike rant.
I'd be ok with ebikes where motorized use is permitted, under the same restrictions. But I HATE the rampant illegal use.

lay it on us brother! What else gets the supreme squirrel barking?
I hate that saddle hunting has become trendy. I hate that the sudden explosion of saddle hunting has led to a lot of false generalizations about saddle hunters. I hate that there are a ton of memes exploiting these generalizations.

I read something on another forum the other day that said "I think saddle hunters are more concerned with playing with their gear than hunting". I think that is an unfair generalization and I hate it.

Almost like giant EONPOWS.

Could you even be able to go around branches? Set the top one above the branch, and bring bottom one as close to branch as you can. sit in saddle and take bottom one off and swap it to top. Step on one thats now right above branch. keep on truckin...

Here we go--they're will probably be more:

-The chrysler PT cuiser...just because it is ridiculous

-"Game Changer"....its time for that saying to be "Game over"

-People who dont buy snow tires and live in Vermont

-Neighbors that burn crap constantly. I have a neighbor that chooses to burn brush, downed trees, etc daily in a firepit instead of just making a bon fire and being done with it.

-Climbing sticks-I love the concept, They're quick. I hate packing them up and unpacking them at the beginning and ending of a hunt. When it takes me 10 minutes to get them just right at home i shouldn't even try to get them right in the woods with cold hands and being tired. I'm done with them.

-I like the quest for lighter weight, but its not the end all...Sorry guys, I"m going ot pick on some heavier guys here....If youre "overweight" and complaining about 5-10 lbs of hunting gear on your back, lose 5-10 lbs of body weight. It's easier and it will make you feel better.

-People who say "Ill take it" in a classifieds thread and then never follow through

-the whole Treestand vs. Saddle mentality. do what works for you. hunting from the ground is sometimes a better option too. Dont just saddle hunt because it;s the "cool" think to do, hunt whatever method is goin got give you the best opportunity....we are hunting deer right?

-People who change their method of climbing, their hitch, their gear, weekly. I go thorugh a lot of gear, but give it some time and actualy use it, dont just fondle it in your basement before you completely switch up to something else.

-when people say the doyle's gear hoist is too "heavy" and paracord is simpler. Sorry, used to be one of those guys. I cant get back all the hours, weeks, of time that I spent freezing my ass off trying to wind up or untangle a stupid pile of paracord. The doyles was my #1 tree hunting gear purchase ever, period.

It has definitely become the crossfit, or veganism of the hunting world.

Don't worry, let a few years pass where people are no more successful than they are with other ways of sitting on their butt in a tree, and it will die down.

Especially with all those wool wearing hippies...

I hate that my state has something like 6 straight weeks of gun season and in a good portion of the state it is through the entirety of the rut cycle. I mean seriously if you need 6 weeks to kill a deer with a gun how in the hail do you ever find a chicken breast at the grocery store.

Speaking of chicken, why can we not get chickens turned out on some BLM or forest service ground, free range feral chickens would be fun huntin.

Similar could be said for penguins, I mean if we cant "harvest" them, can we at least get a season for shooting them with rubber blunts.

And for you folks that think a climber is an equal or better option than a saddle in any circumstance, I have a couple of baker stands that I will give you.

I live in a rural area and trash only runs once a week. You gotta pay extra to have roadside pickup. So I burn all my oak limbs and leaves and cardboard and stuff. I try and save it all up and only burn a few times a year. I don't mind folks burning trash, but for fudge's sake don't burn gobs of plastic, carpet, linoleum, and frigging aerosol cans. I recently had a confrontation with the neighbor over an aerosol can that blew up and ended up on my porch.

"Sorry, but it's not illegal."

"I hear ya man. Well, it's not illegal for me to warm up my mud motor at 2am or squirrel hunt off my porch with a 12 gage either."

Nah, man. It's fair. If we spent as much time obsessing over where deer were spending daylight hours as we do ropes, autolockers, and gear release dates...wouldn't be no deer left.

this guy just doesnt get it, he throws huge wet logs on a 3" round fire pit and just lets things smoke all day long....Dude, biggeer fire, more heat, stuff burns, less smoke. There was a point 2 yeras ago we couldnt take our new born baby outside because the smoke was so bad. Doesnt help we have a pond and live at the edge of a mountain...the thermalis are always pulling from hisproperty to ours...

O yeah, he has no respect for fire safety. Last week he was burning in 30-40mph winds with PILES of dried leaves everywhere....

Besides it would be a minimum of 3 months of research before I could buy one.

And just like that, a reminder that I am amongst my people.

Add me to the "hate rubber boots" group. My feet sweat too much. After wearing rubber boots, my feet are more wet than if I just went stocking footed.

I feel at home in this thread. Very therapeutic. Thanks @kyler1945

Should've used your milkweed to test them when deciding to buy the property. Duh!

The smoky fires are the worst. Someone near me burns a smoky fire in their fireplace when it's 65F out. I had to close the windows so I wouldn't choke. I have a mini split now, so I don't open the windows as much as I used to do.

yeah, its gotten worse since his wife died of cancer( I know we all need our therapies, and I truly feel sorry for him) But...He's a pediatrician, his wife died of cancer...Lets release more carcinogens into the atmosphere, every day...
