Rappeling Setup

Yes, But I have had the delta link get stuck in the V-notch of the tree and had to climb the tree again to get it loose. I can usually work the rappel rope and the pull down rope to over come the friction, but can't over come a stuck delta link.
Yeah that sucks. I use a small 25kN oval screw link which is less snaggy, and make sure that it is loaded axially.

I used to use an oval link as well. I tied it in with a scaffold knot and used it for probably hundreds of rappels. But then someone posted that the scaffold knot could possibly work its way over the oval and come completely undone. Mine never moved at all and I kept an eye on it, but the idea of the possibility of a catastrophic failure eventually got the best of me and I switched to a delta link. I have had to make the climb of shame a few times since switching, but it’s not the end of the world, I guess. I’m usually laughing at myself when I have to do it. Not worth getting upset over it.

I saw that issue raised so used a fig8 on a bight. I also considered an anchor hitch or a estar hitch but the fig8 worked best. I also like not trying to pull down a big heavy hunk of metal in the dark. I may move my pulldown clip location if i encounter any issues as well.

Only problems I've had thusfar with this have been forgetting to remove my locking band, but a strong enough pull will generally cause it to break off.
I'm using the 5mm camp link which is 25kn rated but NOT CE certified, and a castration band to lock in place. CE specifies a 12mm pin be used for loading tests. I don't think a 12mm pin would fit in the link...

Ha! I got so enamored with the scaffold that I forgot I could use a different knot. I will probably go back to the oval link and figure 8 on a bight.

It is a great knot.

I use 25' of Sterling Canon with a madrock safeguard. I've got it anchored with a scaffold hitch on a oval petzel biner. I use a roll pouch on my right hip.

I switched this year to 2-3 Shikar mini sticks with a 5 step movable aider and repel down. Been awesome so far. Will probably try 1 stick in the off-season but have also considered full srt. Probably will do a hybrid of the 2 depending on where I hunt.

What knot are you guys running for a stopper knot?
I’m using a figure-8 since I occasionally have to untie it if pulling the rappel rope down through a notch or over a branch. I’ve never come close to having to worry about the stopper knot since I usually only hunt around 20’ up and my rope is 36’.

Same

How are you guys keeping your rappel line from getting all twisted up? I've got mine in a water bottle pouch with a hole in the top currently and it just seems like it will get twisted up a lot.

You can do a figure 8 between your elbow and wrist and then fold it at the X and stuff it that way. It works fine.

Yeah but it’s better than a wad of rope every time! Lol.

I suck at videos, but I'm amazed at how much oplux I can figure-8 around my hand. video is 50 ft (keep planning to cut off a lineman's belt worth). Keeps everything super compact with no folding and prevents any snags. I figure-8 coil all but the last bit that i usefor a tether, run the cord a couple of times with a slipknot to hold the coil, then stuff the coil and my "tether" on top of it. When i wanna descend a little bump and the rope uncoils perfectly.

From previous responses assume you mean a stopper knot on the tail end that feeds through the eye of the figure 8. But that reminds me to ask, I have read and watched several videos that make the claim that a figure 8, with adequate tail, does not require a stopper knot on its tail end. What are your all thoughts on this?

I really like the idea of using spikes and rappelling down.
Anybody using as your system.
Of course where you it’s legal
