Correct me if I am wrong but he has 1 state record in 1981 with a muzzleloader right? Lots of big deer in the books but only one state record as a grown man



Mitch shot the NORTH AMERICAN RECORD typical 12 across the street from his house then refused to have it examined by anyone other than a few select buddies. Along with at least 2 if not 3 other state records bucks?

I’m not a fanboy either but compared to many other hunters, including Hanson….. Rompola was a good, intentional hunter. Hanson lucked out getting that big buck and not to be mean or negative but how many other big bucks has Hanson shot? I know it has nothing to do with the actual deer at all. However, in many ways at the core….. I believe many of us want to believe him because he is an intentional hunter, who is interested in his craft and just likes pursuing big bucks….. all the worldly reasons notwithstanding, I wanna hope he did it for the love of chasing big bucks. Don’t you all??? Am I being a weirdo about this??

Just read the story and the author came up with a lot of reasons to discredit the skeptics but I didn't see much for evidence that it was real. Also, the pic in the article showing him with another big buck he shot doesn't look real to me either. The antlers seem to be coming out of the side of the deer's head just like the supposed world record buck. I don't know about you but none of the dozens of bucks I have shot over the years look like that.

Different times, different levels of trust. Used to be a man’s word meant something…. Now “pics or it didn’t happen.” Are there any pics in a lot of things we all believe in? No just words and faith.
 
To be fair, pics were a lot harder to come by back then. You had to drop the roll of film off at the photo shop (not the software, lol) and wait a few weeks and hope it turned out good. Film was relatively expensive, so people didn't tend to take a lot of shots like they do now and just delete the files that don't look good. There were camcorders but they were big and bulky and expensive. It was sure not like today where we can post live pics from the tree while we are hunting.
 
I have been following this. I have no opinion, is it real or not?
But the ears looked funny dropping sideways. I looked at a small 10 I shot back in 2014 and he has the horizontal ears.

There's a difference. John's not claiming 2 state records from Missouri and 1 state record from MI and a world record from MI. No one is saying that MR is NOT a good hunter. He is most likely great in the woods. Both these guys are probably great hunters that put a TON of time into their hunting efforts. Great hunters have a knack for finding big bucks in their areas even where there aren't many. In MR's case though, they conveniently happen to be bigger than everybody else's since he was 9 years old. The odds of killing a big buck w/ a bow are low. Really low but it can be done w/ regularity if you put your time in. The odds of killing 2 or 3 state records and the world record? That's so low it's off the charts. The math doesn't lie. No one is that good.
 
Been looking back at some deer pics of my own on fresh kills and ear positions. They are all droopy and tend to lean back. I questioned the ears but the more I look at my own records they seem the same as Mitch's.

That concludes it for me folks. I am sold on the ear position so it must be real.

Joking aside is there any other hunting stories out there where the deer in question has received this much attention to whether its real or not?
