Try hanging off to the side a-la-a Bongo.... pull the climber up, and straddle the tree. Support the climber with your thigh and adjust the belt. Lower the climber back down to your feet.
I haven't tried it exactly this way yet, but I did try the laying it on my thigh part and that worked swell!
That was the way I tried it the last time and I found it to be best for me so far.I may be overthinking this but I am thinking about making a 2 step aider girth hitching it around the tree at the height I foresee needing to adjust the belt and then partially ascending with the climber over it so that I can climb down into the steps and adjust the belt without the aider tightening down against the traction belt
