I'm looking for a decent option to dip my toe into some the DIY stuff. Is this a feasible option or should I keep looking? Happens to be not too far away.

I don't know much about White machines but the price seems very high. Singer has better parts availability. Do you have a thrift store nearby or look on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist. Where are you located? I like a Singer 15-91 best of all.

@bj139 Thanks for the feedback. I'm in NY an hour north of Syracuse but I'm frequently in other parts of the state visiting family. Here are two that I think could be 15-91s. I think that the second one at $50 might be the ticket.

Thoughts on following machines?

thank you

It all depends on your priorities. Do you have space for an industrial? Do you think you'll be interested in another machine later? How do the prices compare, and what is your budget? Will you want a servo for the industrial? Will that blow the budget? What range of projects would you like to tackle?

Either could be a very solid choice.

I'll try to answer your questions. Do I have room, yes. Will I be interested in another machine later, perhaps. I wonder what your purpose of that question was? Does it relate to Q1 regarding space? The prices are the same, $300. Probably too much but I'm just trying to gain information from somebody who is clearly more knowledgeable than myself. I think the 96-10 comes with a new servo motor, but it does not have reverse, and I feel I want that feature. I would like to make my own saddle and other diy gear. I have a Singer 4423 if I want to make clothes or other lightweight items.

Is the Pfaff 230 considered industrial? Does it have readily available parts? Would it be a good machine?

The Pfaff 230 is not an industrial machine, however it is not uncommon to see Pfaff 130's mounted in industrial style tables. I have never owned a domestic Pfaff, but they are well regarded and known for being heavily built and standing up to abuse. Parts will be readily available. The price is high for that Pfaff, you can get a lot more for your money in Ohio, with just a little patience.

If you have room to spare for an industrial, and already have a lighter duty machine, I would go for an industrial. If you want another machine later (an upgrade perhaps) it's nice to already have an industrial table and either a clutch motor you like or a nice servo. Industrial machines are frequently sold as head-only units, so if you already have a table set up, and find a good deal, you can buy it and swap out heads as needed (or sell your old head).

You should wait for a better machine.

Your bold letters are exactly what I wanted to hear. I have my eye on a Juki dnu-241, but it is a bit out of my price range at $600. I greatly appreciate your insight. Thank you

Edit: I should mention that I do not use facebook, so I am sure I miss out on some deals.

No problem! If you look at the second post on this thread, you can get an idea of some of the deals that have popped up in your state (those that lasted long enough for me to notice them).

I wish I would have found this post sooner. I will continue to keep my eye out. I do want a machine with reverse for locking stitches.

I have a few videos on my Singer 95-40 here. Reverse is nice to have.
