Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

In the process of trying to buy this one right now. Thanks for the heads up.

Hope you get it! It's missing the bobbin winder tensioner. You can get a pile of bobbin cases and bobbins for them really cheap as well. I like having a dedicated bobbin case set up for a certain type and size of thread.

Thanks. It only comes with the one foot, needle plate and feed dogs but I see a whole set can be had for $20.

does anyone know how capable a singer 221-1 would be for sewing multiple layers of webbing? I have access to use one, but would a model 15 be better suited for the heavier sewing?

I would not buy it, especially for $150. If it was $20, maybe.

I am clueless about sewing machines but it sounds like it is powerful. Can sew leather has a variety of stitches and can add a walking foot

Those domestic Pfaff machines are known for their strength, but I don't know about their presser foot clearance. You'll also appreciate having a flat bed over that free arm. All things considered, I would pass.

Singer 16?
$100
Monroeville, IN

Can't go wrong for the price.

Tacsew 111-155
$300
St Louis, MO

Killer price

I agree. I have one but just got juki dnu-1541. It’s been good to me but the juki was too good of a price to pass up. I’m trying to sell my tacsew but I’d keep it for $300.

Well I bought the machine any way. I put 4 layers of seat belt webbing under the presser foot and it handled it easily. It was made in Germany in the 1950s and has a 1.3 amp motor that didn’t hesitate
I do not know sewing machines at all but I tried three layers of leather too.
It is a simple machine with variable stitch spacing and a zigzag function and reverse and needle threader and that is it.

Excellent! Hadn't realized it had the flat bed attachment. As you are no doubt now aware, that makes life easier.

Singer 96-46
$100
Portsmouth, RI

Just a simple drop feed straight stitch machine. I believe this was one of the heavy duty Singer 96 models.
I have a 95-40 which is the short bed model. It sews well.

What’s the indicator I’m looking for on these? I know the 99s and 15s and clones are good, but how do you tell? Serial number?
The 15s have the tension dial on the left side and not the front left. It is not a 15-91 with the external motor at the back. Maybe a 15-90 or clone.
There is a little knob on the right side just to the left of the spool pin on the bed. Japanese clones of the 15 typically have a drop feed knob there. I suspect it is a Japanese clone.

The other one looks to be a Necchi Nora or BU.
