What is the latest that I can sign up @donnieballgame? October is still a pretty busy month for me. The grass is still growing plenty fast down here in South. So as much as I would like to commit now it may be one of those last-minute decisions. It sounds like a really good time and I hate to miss any saddlehunter event. If I can make it it'll definitely be just me making this one. I was willing to give up hunting hogs to bring the kid but not so much on this hunt. Besides I will have to fly. I do believe Maryland's a bit further than what I want to drive.

I'm entertaining this for sure. depends on my fire season but I'm only 45 minutes away and I have yet to hunt sika. which it so stupid on my part based on my connections I have at the refuge and friends that hunt them. Blackwater actually has a lot more walk in access than you think but you can get away with a ton with a kayak, but some places definitely need a boat with a good outboard.. Plus there are a ton of state pieces on the MD state Chesapeake forest. Lewis, Hornake/Oliphant and Insley Tract all surround Blackwater for the most part and these are old industrial forest lands with a ton of walk in access and a really good reputation for sika numbers. You can check out the area on the Maryland Merlin site
http://www.imap.maryland.gov/Pages/default.aspx. its their GIS based web interactive mapping site. you can overlay tons of stuff on there and would be a lot better than google earth and has all the tracts on there.

Also wanted to add from what I hear from friends. A lot of people think you have to have water under you to get on them put they really creep on the transitions quite a bit and also on a high tide cycle with a full moon its gonna push them up on some higher ground. they are also super responsive to calling. One friend told me its the best part about whitetail hunting and turkey hunting. They are elk after all. Delicious elk as well. Best wild game meet I've ever eaten. She suggested getting one of these http://www.dougwigfield.com/SIKASEDUCER.html. the guy who makes them was a biologist for MD DNR for 35 years and he's super dialed on these things but there is a learning curve to the call. All day sits are the norm as well this time of year because they are rutting. You will hear them everywhere calling and running around but the cover is so thick that they cruise around in finding a shot is the hardest part even if they are 10 feet away. you have to time the tides sometime as well because most times you'll be in the water getting to them and if the tide comes up sorry about your luck. Dans frog legs were a must from what I've been told as well. Because the briars roll off of them really well and they are really easy to run around in. A friend of mine that has a tracking dog service swears by them in the sika marsh. oh and one last thing. Thermacells. note I said plural. Just in case one breaks. Haha. if you boys are coming from elsewhere and you think you've seen mosquitos I'm here to tell you think again. You will stand zero chance stepping foot in the woods and marshes around there so if you like to maintain an adequate amount of blood in your system...... treat your clothes with permanone as well if the skeets don't get you the ticks will.
