Yes. It grips the rope when trying to untie. Leave that spot bare. Also I have one set done in stealth strips and one in camo form. The stealth stripe set isn’t holding up. Dirt and bark get in the seams and it peels back more and more every use. I’ve used the cheap vet wrap and camo form. The camo form is a much superior product. It will last longer.
 
Anyone try partially filling with silicone? I’ve used spray foam in the past on climbers and it worked ok but can soak up water.
