Simplified Wild Edge Knot

This is a simplified method to make the knot which secures the Wild Edge steps to the tree. For me it really speeds up the time it takes to attach the steps. The final knot has exactly the same wraps as the traditional but using this approach eliminated the need to feed and pull the tag end of the rope thru the loops. I have the 8 foot ropes on my steps and found that in course of pulling the rope thru it often twisted and I would need to stop and straighten it out before pulling the knot tight. This seems to eliminate that twist.

This especially helps for installing the steps above your head if you're using the Wild Edge aider or the climbing method @Cain posted previously. Since the step is over your head pulling the loop down and thru is easy.

In fact I have to give credit to Cain for the inspiration for this when he demonstrated his knot untie method. I decided if you could untie by removing a single loop you should be able to tie in the reverse process. That's what this method does.

Hope this helps.
Only in MICHIGAN boyne bowhunter. good job. BFI from sw michigan here. you look like a guy who might like my new saddle called the EAGLES NEST MOLLE2 still in development here in my shop yea its another diy saddle. one question could you tell me which knot you use and or hardware for stem tie in to the tree stem or branch. I really like your knot I bought those steps 25 years ago at Bobs Gun and tackle in hastings mi. always liked them but your knot is a UPGRADE FOR SURE.

Thanks BFI. I just girth hitch my tether around the tree or branch though an oval link attached to the rope with a tight eye splice. I used to attach my retrieval cord to the link but I had trouble pulling it loose a couple of time last season. I discovered that to get slack in the rope that way I had to contend with the friction of entire length of rope in the loop passing around the tree. I found that if I attached to the rope directly just inside the link I can easily pull slack through the link.

This is exactly why I love this site! I have been using the SteppLadder since I was 12 years old when Jim gave me my first set and I have never seen anyone else do the loop like this! It is genius and thank you so much boyne bowhunter for taking the time to make that video and thanks for teaching us another way to skin a cat!!

Any more information about the platform option you guys may be offering this year? I'm really starting to like the stepps especially with boyne's knot technique and Cain's climbing method. I am hoping this platform option is a slam dunk!

Thanks!

You're welcome. The idea occurred to me after watching @Cain 's untie method and it is quicker and easier for me than pulling the tag end through. I'm glad it was useful and am happy to see the updated video. Thanks for the nod! EDITED : By the way, I really like the Stepps. Quick to install and extremely stable once cammed over.

After several practice climbs, I just setup like I would to hunt with 8 steps (6 for climbing height plus 2 for platform) in 8 minutes. 15ft sans aider, but even hooking up the aider I think I have a sub 10 minute setup. May have to post a video.

Lots of practice to make that time, but a BIG part of it is the "loop" method.

I guess I am the odd ball, but I never was too upset with the time component of using the steps. We have a lot of funky trees and their flexibility was the most appealing thing. However, this is GOLD. I am jacked to try this. Thanks for sharing.

That little nugget was worth the membership fee, right???

FINALLY got to give this a look with a stepp in my living room. This is so simple it’s stupid!! Great job!! I can’t wait to try this on a tree tomorrow!
