Anytime you add a step to a strap try this trick with a shock cord. Use a zip tie for an adjustable cord lock and add it to the step/strap. It keeps the step in place when you set up or wrap up. And depending on how tight you zip the tie, the shock cord can be lock solid or adjustable so the step can slide on the strap with effort. But it never slides to where you don't want it when you are setting the stand. Cam the stand, and the step is always exactly where you want it...never too close or too far from the platform. Zip ties are the best cord locks for shock cord, and the smaller the tie, the better it bites into the cord. Ive been using zips for years. The work great.
The "X" pattern in my pic (on the ROS) is better than the one on the tree pic. The "X" style can never fall off. The parallel could conceivably come off...the X cannot.
