SloMo`s DIY Saddle Hunting Platform

I`ll have a look at the bracket I used but I think it might be smaller too. To be honest I think the bracket can be smaller but the connections to the bracket and how everything fits together is probably more important to me. The big game seat I used is very simple. The post is attached to the tree and creates an anchor point for the bottom cleat , and the platform via 1 single 5/16 bolt . It fits together so well that once that bolt is tightened you can shake it all you want and its wont make any noise at all. I got this seat from a friend who was going to throw it away. I`1ll see if I still have the box it came in . Maybe I will get lucky and find a model number. Stay Tuned Folks.

I`m at my day job right now. I`ll have a look at the bracket I used but I think it might be smaller too. To be honest I think the bracket can be smaller but the connections to the bracket and how everything goes together is what makes it strong enough to support the weight it will need to. Look closely at the bottom bracket pictured here on this muddy swivel seat . Its identical to the one I used on maybe a bit smaller. Anyone have one of these they can measure.

Some parts came tonight so even though it’s dark outside, I had to try it out.

My first platform! I jumped up on it and it held all 225#s of me without a problem.

Tube is 9” 1.25” square with a solid aluminum insert at the platform bolt. Using a 6” dyneema runner on the one side with a carabiner connected to a Lone Wolf strap. It cammed right over once I found the sweet spot.

Very nice work . I'm waiting for a day off to dig into the cam lok thing . I like the post setup .

Nice work guys. I like this platform, it reminds me of the old loc-on black lighting with the round holes in the platform.

hopefully i get mine Friday!
I've never had or used a platform only a ring of steps
How about a ring of scooter platforms? They're small enough

Once my saddle comes in and I can do more testing, I'll be keeping an eye on the strap connection points. The metal is thin, but not sharp there. When the rest of you get yours in, take a look and give me your thoughts. The other idea is to use a carabiner directly connected to the stand.

I have used my platform with the ring of steps and have mastered the art of stepping on them . i like having the platform set up on the backside or 6 o'clock . This enables me to sit ,lean, it also gives me a place to put my pack etc. until I secure it to the tree someplace. Some will find a bigger platform more desirable. I have the XOP and built the scooter platform because I wanted something a little bit smaller. It`s not necessarily a better platform just a different style. Improvise and get out there . Try your steps. Watch how your feet land on your setup. get used to finding your saddle gear in the dark. Don`t wait for the saddle to come. You can practice now using your fall arrest harness , tether and a lineman's belt. Just stay low on the tree and get out there now and practice..

I’ve always had the mindset if I’m going to carry a platform I will just carry my lock on. That’s why I have always used the ring of steps. But with every one on the platform wagon I figured I would jump in and try it out. I may hate it. But I figured I would try it

I agree no one should be waiting for their Mantis or any other saddle to show up. Work on climbing and setting up your gear there is a lot more to saddle hunting than having a places to sit

DanO- What size bolt did you use to bolt the platform to the post?

That setup looks like it should work well to cam lock it. Hopefully my platform arrives soon. Looks like it will fit really easily into my backpack, i was already hauling that in anyway so will just be a little extra weight vs. utilizing a ring of steps.

I was able to make a 5/16" grade 8 work. I think it was 3" or 3 1/2". Can check tonight if you want.

I`m still waiting. Working on a XPO conversion now.

I’m surprised it got here this fast. I hope to have it on a tree tomorrow afternoon. It’s a little heavier than I suspected. But it will definitely work! Seems solid
