Interesting that we seem to be moving now to the larger platforms with the launch of at least 3-4 new ones. The most recent trend was for the smaller, easy to pack highly mobile and now there is a renewed interest in being more comfortable. As a whole the saddle hunting community is a fickle one that's for sure. I love to see Innovations and development in this area but most designs sure do resemble Ernie's original design just proving the more things change the more they stay the same!

That why you need 4 of each, so you are always in style. :D

Other than Ultra social media marketing How are you going to keep NEW money rolling in?
1. Get more hunters into a saddles.
2. Minor redesigns. Just like an iPhone, make it bigger, make it smaller, add a slightly better camera, etc. And market why it’s better. All of the sudden consumers are consuming your new product even though they have a perfectly capable one kind of like that annual cell phone “upgrade”.

Its just marketing. You already have small and light, doubtful they can sell you another one of those so they turn it into bigger is better.

No different with the latest heavy arrow movement. Need to sell more stuff so they market heavier is better

The arrow movement is more science-oriented though. The larger platform movement is more comfort-oriented.

Me, I’m fine with my mantis-predator setup.

The first saddle platform was "big, heavy, and comfy." The Assassin. It came out way before the klemz seat mod inspired predator. Brad Kuhnert built it from the ground up to be specifically for what it was for (not cobbling something together from available parts.) It was ahead of it's time, but as saddle hunting grew it became the most in-demand platform on the market, with used ones going for outrageous sums if you could convince folks to part with them.

I'm still a ROS guy at heart, because I like to hit fresh woods and just walk until I find something. Sometimes the scouting is more fun than the hunting. When you're doing that, it's hard to beat a pack of bolts and a treehopper drill shoved in a fanny pack. But when you're doing multiday dark-to-dark sits like I did last year, a big platform and a saddle are hard to beat.

Big platforms needed to happen again, and they did. :)

I really hope bow companies don’t catch on to this trend next

Not to derail this thread, but I'm thinking...

2020 Saddle Hunter Zubaz Challenge

Who's in? :D

This will be my first year in the saddle and have everything but the platform. I can't make up my mind on the Predator, Ridge Runner or wait for the Predator XL

I think the Predator is about perfect size honestly and I have size 13 feet. I have never had one bit of trouble shooting 360 with just a platform and nothing else. It packs great and is light so I have never felt the need for anything bigger myself. Being able to walk the edge of the platform pretty much eliminates the need for something bigger (for me). You’ll just have to do some experimenting and see what you like best.
