Small compact or large and comfy-this is the new dilemma in platforms

I shoot a 425gr arrow and I've never not had a pass through.I don't take long shots but when I range a 30 yard circle of death around my tree,I wants to use one pin with confidence so I'll take the extra speed. If I were shooting hogs over a feeder,I'd consider going the heavy route.

We, those of us who have high jacked this thread from the OP's original subject, owe him an apology. So sir, I am sorry for my involvement in heavy arrow debates on your thread. I know this has been beaten to death, but it is about killing deer, and it is newish for some, and getting damn old for some others. It is a lively topic for discussion, so it's my thought that's why it continues on. Plus I think it's important, it's just not the topic of this thread. Bye. Oh, I mean buy.

Anyone have the dimensions of the new predator xl? All that is listed on their website is "40% larger than origina"l and weight 46 oz...

So add 40% more to the dimensions & we can figure that out.

I like a large platform/mini treestand and I'm thrilled to have options. IFGAF what anyone else things or keeping up with the gear dorks.

I really only need a platform so I can pee from the tree. JX3 users, how?? Catheter?

For me I am going small, I have to travel so weight counts for the plane. Here's one to machine to test out, I will get the material in to give it a whirl, regards wayne
size wise its roughly 7- 1/2" x 8-1/2" x 1/2" cam over style.

I don't think that heavy arrows with high FoC have better penetration capibilities may or may not be true, if I'm reading you correctly. I'm pretty sure it's a physical fact. Hopefully if enough people make some changes in the right direction we can influence the wounding stats. When I made the switch it was from info in here and not from a company that sells heavy stuff. But if the companies can market heavy and people buy in, well good for the companies pushing the change( chasing the dollar), and good for bow hunting. Trad archers have known about this new marketing trend for some time, it's about time us compound shooters got with the program.
So, to contradict this a little. A lot of the "light arrow, more speed, flatter trajectory" movement was also to attempt to decrease the wounding rate. You wouldn't need to be exactly on with your ranging like you will with a heavier, slower arrow. So, while science does tend to indicate that a heavier arrow penetrates better, it would also indicate that there will be a longer period for the target to react and move and that there will be a greater arc in the arrow, requiring more precise knowledge of distance.

My guess, you will again see a light arrow movement.

As for the platforms, I think they both have their place. Longer hunts I like a little more room to spread my feet out.
