Smallest 18kN or better carabiner?

I'm guessing you want the shortest carabiner along the major axis? REI has the dimensions listed for most carabiners. Grivel Plume K3G and Grivel Plume Nut K3N are the shortest locking carabiners I can find to date at 3.5 inches. A triangle quick link (the one linked below is 2.75 inches) will be shorter but heavier than these biners. The shorter a carabiner is the smaller the gate opening is. This doesn't work well in the climbing community where every second counts trying to clip in. So they have to strike a balance of size when designing the carabiners. Also watch @Nutterbuster video on his tether and bridge in his saddle setup

I would recommend getting the wire gate. It's dummy (not saying anyone is a dummy) proof.
DanO sells it https://doublesteps.com/product/grivel-plume-twin-gate-carabiner/

I personally run Edelrid Pure Slider biners (not on bridge and also dummy proof). But they are about 4 inches tall. Hope this helps

Thanks brother. That is a plethora of good information to consider.

Well, I messed around and made a soft shackle to try out. Super small and light. The mental block is loosening as I have read a lot of statistics, numbers and watching breaking tests. Im back to being all in on the soft shackle. I know its not a common climbing tool, but im not going to be using it for frequent connects like an arborist of rock climber might use it for.

Thanks all for the info and suggestions!

Im also picking up some of the twin gate biners suggested by @skyjacker cause they look awesome and I will find a use for them!

I was apprehensive at first too...until I had the cheater bar on the handle of the come-a-long. If u made it correctly once the load is on it there's no way for it to come out unless the amsteel fails. Eveybody already trusts it for lots of applications. I carry 2 soft shackles and 2 whoopie slings with me in my emergency get down gear....those couple items will get me down in a pinch....it will just take forever

I really like the small, almost unnoticeable profile of the shackle under load.
