They were studying collar deer movement and creating an algorithm off of that. Absolutely nothing to do with user data. He was developing it before the app was a thing. I'm as sceptical as the next guy about privacy but that is completely different than what he was using "AI" to do
This conversation makes me feel like a cynical old man (which I’m neither).
Using collard Deer data is precisely what I’m worried about. Hunting doesn’t need any more easy buttons. When you put all these technologies together you remove the need for skill. If people want an easier go at hunting then they can head to a region with an excessive deer population - at least that way they are learning and helping to keep a healthy herd.
Once the software exists to predict deer
Movement based on collared deer data, the apps will absolutely be incentivized to mine user data to refine the accuracy of software.
I hope the next generation of hunters will be more skillful and effective than we are, but not because Siri told them where to go and how to get there.
