Hey, anybody splice Samson Predator 11.4mm? Want to make a new lineman’s belt
Tried youtube. It still looked complicated. Think I'll stick with 7000# break strength line and knots.I mentioned it on another thread and they said its simple, youtube it. Ive never tried it, but seen a video where a guy used a big needle type tool and it was easy/peasy as they say.
You are correct. If you're following samson's recommendations it makes for a long bury as you go up in amsteel diameter.I have some 5/16" amsteel blue left over from another project. Looking at splicing in an eye, but the bury seems to be excessively long (2 fids) which seems like would make for a long bridge. Any thoughts? Am I misunderstanding the need for this long of a bury?

I tried splicing the 10mm kernmantle parallel core rescue rope - complete fail. I struggled finding any supporting instructions or videos on splicing this style of rope without "thinning" the inner core so it fits. The best video that went step by step had 3 marks for exit, entry (to form loop) and milking the jacket; actually must have a missing step or something else wrong in the instructions. because my math and 3 entry and exit points never introduces the parallel strands back into the core ??? I wasted 10 - 15 feet of rope after trying this 3 times and ended with about 1-2" of bury (called for 1 1 /2 fids) GOOD LUCK before the jacket was so tight I ended up cutting my fid free. Long story short - ordered 2 Ropeman 1's. : ) "If you have money, and you have a problem; and money can solve the problem - What's the problem?" LOL. I will leave splicing to the pro's - I admit defeat...I just tried my hand at splicing 10mm kernmantle rescue rope. Complete fail. The sheath is way to tight. It was too difficult to jam all of the threads into a number 15 knitting needle and keep them from twisting. I gave up and just went with knots.

Hop in my boat. Kernmantle sucks for splicing.
