Splicing rope?

I just tried my hand at splicing 10mm kernmantle rescue rope. Complete fail. The sheath is way to tight. It was too difficult to jam all of the threads into a number 15 knitting needle and keep them from twisting. I gave up and just went with knots.

I mentioned it on another thread and they said its simple, youtube it. Ive never tried it, but seen a video where a guy used a big needle type tool and it was easy/peasy as they say.
Tried youtube. It still looked complicated. Think I'll stick with 7000# break strength line and knots.

I have some 5/16" amsteel blue left over from another project. Looking at splicing in an eye, but the bury seems to be excessively long (2 fids) which seems like would make for a long bridge. Any thoughts? Am I misunderstanding the need for this long of a bury?

You are correct. If you're following samson's recommendations it makes for a long bury as you go up in amsteel diameter.

Gotcha, guess I will just drop down in diameter. Was hoping could make work with this extra rope had lying around, but guess not.

I tried splicing the 10mm kernmantle parallel core rescue rope - complete fail. I struggled finding any supporting instructions or videos on splicing this style of rope without "thinning" the inner core so it fits. The best video that went step by step had 3 marks for exit, entry (to form loop) and milking the jacket; actually must have a missing step or something else wrong in the instructions. because my math and 3 entry and exit points never introduces the parallel strands back into the core ??? I wasted 10 - 15 feet of rope after trying this 3 times and ended with about 1-2" of bury (called for 1 1 /2 fids) GOOD LUCK before the jacket was so tight I ended up cutting my fid free. Long story short - ordered 2 Ropeman 1's. : ) "If you have money, and you have a problem; and money can solve the problem - What's the problem?" LOL. I will leave splicing to the pro's - I admit defeat...

Hop in my boat. Kernmantle sucks for splicing.

Is all Kermantle rope that parallel strand type? How do I know if it is double braid or parallel?
It was a valuable lesson I learned (not to mention how sore my fingers were) - some very foul language that day!!

Haha man I have no idea what is double braid. I just remember flipping out and dropping the f bomb enough that my dogs went into their kennels. I also rope burned my hand into a blister from pulling so hard. I got all this 10mm rope, 6mm rope, 50ft of 1/4” amsteel and I dont know what to do with it.
