Spur strap/buckle PSA. Don't make the same mistake.

@elk yinzer where was the buckle sitting on your boot? Close to the metal eye on the spur, on top of your boot, pulled closer to the shank of the spur? Also, did you have the strap double wrapped around the shank of the spur?

I have the buckle centered over my boot. I tied a knot in the webbing that won't fit through the metal eye on the spur so it give me something to cinch down tight against. I don't double wrap it.

I ordered the same lower straps as Flingin. Didn't work for me, they came loose first time climbing with them. Going to try ykk dual adjust buckles with 1" webbing next.
I may have figured out your problem. Just got mine in and did the flingin strap mod. On one foot, the open end of the g hook was open toward my toes. On the other foot, the g hook open end was open toward my leg. The one open toward my leg was hard to slide out even when loose. It would want to grab the loop and not slide out because of the angle the loop was oriented. The g hook that the open end was open toward my toes fell out when I loosened the strap.

Not sure how to fix it. The buckle can only go one way. They would need to make a right and left buckle to get the hook opening up toward your leg on the left leg.

Yep. I realized it was the way my foot wants to lever in the spurs as it pronates it or whatever that was loosening it. I still put different buckles on but that is a downside of the whole system with adjustable webbing and I suspect why most of the straps arborist use are the way they are.

Already starting to fray after putting on twice. Gonna have to work on another mod. I don’t think it will last.

Doesn’t look like something I would worry about personally. All my straps get a little fuzzy after a while but I don’t feel it compromises strength. Are you
Having any issues with the buckle slipping?

I just got the same straps in for my spurs the other day.. I only climbed once but had no issues with them. I am using a set of bashlin spurs they have a big ring on the bottom for the old straps I just fed the strap through it around the back of my boot and over the shank of the spur clipped in on top worked fine. Like I said though I only climbed with them once I'll see how it goes the more times I do it.

I have bashlins as well. Same way I did it too, no issues as of yet. @flinginairos suggests removing split ring and buckle on strap so you can route it through the smaller hole that split ring was in. Might give that a shot

That’s what I did.

I tried that tonight but could not get the strap through the hole split ring was in, pretty dang small. How'd you get it through?

Couple beers and some stealth strips....sounds like a Good Friday night!
Got my Bashlin spurs with climb right pads wrapped up in stealthy goodness and a little camoform. Used bottom strap mod from @flinginairos, (finally able to work strap through split ring hole), and went with 1&1/2” webbing and buckle on top. Pretty happy with’em....let’s climb!!

Very nice. Where did you get the strap you put across the pads?
